Anne V. Coates

A graduate of Bartrum Gables College, Anne V. Coates worked briefly as a nurse before entering the British film industry. Beginning with 1952's The Pickwick Papers, Coates worked steadily as a film editor in both England and the U.S. She won an Academy Award for her work on Lawrence of Arabia (1962), and was Oscar-nominated for Becket (1964), The Elephant Man (1980), and In the Line of Fire (1993). In 1989, she was a key contributor in the painstaking archival restoration of Lawrence of Arabia. Anne V. Coates was the wife of Douglas Hickox and the mother of Anthony Hickox, directors both. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
