The most recognizable franchise in video game sports returns for a 20th season of gridiron action in Madden NFL 09. The constant tweaking of the series continues as well, with the "09" entry unveiling an assortment of new features and updated animations. New to the PSP version is the Rookie Mode which simplifies playcalling and employs a new passing system. The tri-level playcalling ranges from easy to advanced, letting gamers pick plays based on their personal skill level, and "Intelligent Coach Tips" give players instant feedback regarding play selection and execution. Passing and defense have been simplified with new player indicators, new open receiver icons and animations, and a one-button control scheme featuring assisted player movements that allows for bone-crunching hits.
