The story is not about Nelson Mandela but his prison guard James Gregory. Gregory serves as Mandela's prison guard because he knows the African language Xhosa. Rightly said by some critics a history lesson of sorts, everyone should see this movie. It is simple, honest, and displays hidden prejudices of apartheid world that are prevalent even today. Nelson Mandela wanted the ruling British to talk with nationalist fighters for peace. But the mayhem of anarchy, atrocity and violence continued for more than half a century in peaceful and beautiful South Africa. Director Bille August shows the apathy of human mind with everyday talks against terrorist. I was fortunate to be part of the audience seeing this movie. (Stars 7.5/10)

Really excellent film depicting both the atrocities and the subtleties of apartheid and how decent people can behave abominably within such a system. The courage of James Gregory deserved to be reported, and I feel privileged to have watched this movie. Carol W.
