The citizens of London must grapple with one of the greatest environmental crises in British history, and the possible obliteration of the city itself, in Flood, a natural disaster opus from director Tony Mitchell (Supervolcano). In present day England, a colossal storm hits the North Atlantic Ocean just outside of the UK and moves toward the Scotch mainland, laying waste to the town of Wick. Some predict that the crisis will die off; not so Professor Leonard Morrison (Tom Courtenay of Billy Liar), who worked arduously on the Thames River barrier. Morrison presciently foresees the system moving across the Thames barrier, where it will gain added strength from the year's unusually high tide and inundate London with a wall of water. In desperation, Leonard contacts daughter-in-law Sam (Jessalyn Gilsig), Director of Operations for the barrier, and warns her of the impending destruction; Sam's estranged husband (and Leonard's son) Rob (Robert Carlyle), who is employed as an engineer on the Barrier, and Police Commissioner Patricia Nash (Joanne Whalley) also become involved. As the water hits - just as predicted - these officials declare a city-wide state of emergency and must take extreme measures to keep the pending disaster from spiraling out of control and claiming untold numbers of lives . ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide
A dark cloud of death descends upon a small town when a swarm of genetically modified wasps take to the sky in this sci-fi shocker featuring A Nightmare on Elm Street star Robert Englund. Devin Hall (Sebastien Roberts) has seen his fair share of hostile insects. An exterminator who specializes in ridding the world of household pests, Devin gets the fright of his life when he witnesses a homeless man attacked by a swarm of particularly aggressive wasps. Convinced that something sinister is afoot, the rattled exterminator enlists the aid of new Deputy Sheriff Jane Kozik (Sarah Allen) and associate professor of entomology Katherine Randall (Jayne Heitmeyer) in stopping the swarm before it gets stronger. Later, when Jane's curious daughter Kelsey strikes up a conversation with eccentric wasp keeper Eli (Englund), an already troubling situation becomes absolutely terrifying. It seems that the mutant wasps are turning their victims into drones. Is there any hope of stopping this government-created weapon before everyone in Black Stone becomes human incubators for the next wave, or has the initial swarm already grown too powerful to defeat by conventional means? ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

Sex, drugs, and rock & roll happen to run in the family in this dramatic series produced for the MTV cable network. The Jackson Decker Band was a critically acclaimed and commercially successful rock group in the '70s and '80s, and after a 15-year layoff, Chase Rooney (Tom Lock), a recent honors graduate of Stanford's business school and also the son of the group's bassist Keith Rooney (David Nerman), has organized a reunion tour for the band. These days, the members of the Jackson Decker Band are older and wiser, and they've brought their children along for the tour, ranging in age from 16 to 23. Vocalist Annie Baker (Jennifer Dale), a recovering alcoholic, is accompanied by her better-grounded daughter Lu (Sarah Manninen), who was once Chase's girlfriend. Keith is traveling not only with son Chase as manager, but with Olivia (Jessica Welch), his free-spirited daughter. Drummer Rick Parsons (Bruce Dinsmore) has brought his straight-arrow daughter Darby (Jane McGregor) along to see the sights. And Travis Williams (Matthew Carrey) has recently learned that Jason Decker guitarist Drake Taylor (Ron Lea) is his biological father. Drake gets him a job as a roadie with the group so that Travis can get to know the father he never met while growing up. As the band members strive to avoid the chemical and sexual pitfalls that helped to sideline the band in the 1980s, the kids are tempted by the wild life of the road and have to deal with their own romantic entanglements. Live Through This was MTV's first hour-long dramatic series; the first episode premiered August 9, 2000. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Adam Sandler's second popular starring vehicle after Billy Madison is a goofy lowbrow paean to golf, hockey, and the comic hysterics of its childlike star. In Happy Gilmore, Sandler plays the title character, a raw, determined, but ultimately untalented hockey player who keeps trying out for the pros. When Happy discovers his grandmother (Frances Bay) will lose her home if she doesn't fork over 270,000 dollars to the IRS, he tries to figure out how he can possibly scrounge up the cash. An idea strikes during a game of one-upmanship with a couple furniture movers stripping his grandmother's home: On his first-ever swing, he drives a golf ball farther than the movers have ever seen. Before long, he has transplanted the foul-mouthed, aggressive persona of the hockey rink to the links, winning an amateur tourney that earns him a spot on the pro tour. Throttling everyone from a helpless caddy to game show host Bob Barker during the course of his 90-day quest to amass prize money, Happy also wins the sport a legion of new fans with his in-your-face style. Guiding him on his quest is a whimsical retired pro who lost his hand to an alligator (Carl Weathers) and an attractive public relations woman charmed by Happy's antics (Julie Bowen). Opposing him, however, is sneering hotshot Shooter McGavin (Christopher McDonald), who will do anything to win his championship jacket and see Happy fail. ~ Derek Armstrong, All Movie Guide
