Assigned to take charge of a band of unruly Klingon volunteers, Worf is saddened to discover that one of them is his own son Alexander (now played by Marc Worden). Despite the well-meaning intervention of General Martok (J.G. Hertzler), Worf and Alexander are unable to mend the rift between them. During the previous week's "In Purgatory's Shadow," the Dominion invasion had begun, with the Jem'Hadar fleet pouring through the wide open wormhole. As this episode begins, the enemy suddenly changes its course and heads toward Cardassian space, prompting Gul Dukat (Marc Alaimo) to give chase, the better to forge a secret alliance with the Dominion, with himself as ruler of Cardassia. Meanwhile, Bashir, Worf and Garak struggle to escape from a Jem'Hadar prison. As was the case in seasons past, the fifth season of Deep Space Nine ended with a crisis situation, as the crew prepares for a devastating Dominion/Cardassian attack. Once again, Sisko tries to forestall the attack by closing off the wormhole, but his efforts are futile. Meanwhile, Odo and Kira put aside their blossoming relationship in the face of imminent destruction, Jake accepts a job as a war correspondent, and Worf proposes to Dax. As the episode hurtles to a close, the unthinkable happens, and the crew surrenders DS9 to the Dominion. Though we didn't see it acknowledged in the opening credits, Baby Doll Murders is a reworking of the 1964 Victor Buono vehicle The Strangler. There's a killer on the loose, preying upon beautiful young women. At the scene of each crime, the police find a damaged baby doll. Detective Jeff Kober detects a subtle pattern emerging. Alas, it leads to the inescapable conclusion that the next victim will be the wife of Kober's partner. Expectedly exploitational, Baby Doll Murders is not bad of its kind. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

The "Bloody" in Bloody Kids is meant in both its scatological in literal sense. Two restless teens (Derrick O'Connor and Gary Holton) from the South End of London go on a Saturday-night spree. When girls and booze lose their appeal, the boys add murder to their itinerary. A surreal, high-energy film about life and death on the streets, the film has some intelligent social criticism, but its ultra-violent subject matter and unusual visual style caused controversy. The most noteworthy aspect of Bloody Kids may well be its treatment upon release. Considered too bloody for British theatrical exposure, the film went directly to television -- an intriguing reversal of the American procedure. Bloody Kids was director Stephen Frears' second feature, foreshadowing his later highly acclaimed The Grifters which also featured grim subject matter but with classic film-noir grace and sensibility, a sensibility lacking in Bloody Kids. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
