Director René Cardona continues a short spate of successful children's movies (1958's Pulgarcito, and Santa Claus, 1959) with this drama that brings in child actor Josélito as a young boy in search of his father. Josélito and his mother are temporarily left back in Spain after his father goes to Mexico to pursue fame and fortune as a matador. But when his father does not come home after a long time, the little boy takes off across the Atlantic in a make-shift boat. Fortunately, he is rescued from this wobbly craft by a much better one and brought safely to the U.S. Once there, he continues his adventurous journey in search of his father and ends up in Vera Cruz, helped out by Pulgarcito. A positive advertisement for an upbeat Mexican spirit in song and dance and attitude, this is an otherwise routine musical-romance with a touch of Western thrown in for good measure. A young orphan (María Pons) wants to follow in the footsteps of her departed mother and succeed in the entertainment industry. She falls in love with a young man (Manuel Capetillo, a former bullfighter) who aspires to become a matador. Although the two are determined to stay together, their relatives are not necessarily in agreement. This comedy is another of the quickly-filmed, three-week wonders from Mexico that suffers because of the rush. Star Manuel "El Loco" Valdez crosses over from his zany television appearances to play the lead, while Flor Silvestro, Irma Dorantes, and Olivia Michel portray the three sisters in the Karambazo family. It is indicative of the level of comedy that "Karambazo" can be construed as "caramba" gone wild.
