Ozzy Osbourne Movies
Heavy metal pioneer Ozzy Osbourne first gained exposure as co-founder and vocalist of the groundbreaking hard rock band Black Sabbath, which formed in 1969 in Osbourne's hometown of Birmingham, England. After nearly a decade of helping to define the parameters of the heavy metal genre, Osbourne embarked upon a solo career that brought him even more success and infamy. He became a symbol for hard rock excess and outrageousness, thanks to his music's quasi-Satanic imagery, his very public substance abuse, and an assortment of bizarre stunts (such as biting the head off of a dove in front of a roomful of record executives and an arrest for urinating against the Alamo). Osbourne's few silver screen appearances have been cameos in youth-oriented films that play off his image as the ultimate rock & roll heathen, though his interview segment in the documentary The Decline of Western Civilization 2: The Metal Years was one of the few down-to-earth, honest moments in a revealing, and often damning, portrayal of the metal scene's fans and performers. However, it was with the 2002 premiere of the MTV reality series The Osbournes that Ozzy entered the strangest chapter of his career in the public eye. Millions tuned in weekly to peer into the day-to-day life of the Osbourne clan, as captured by a camera crew set up in the family mansion. Ozzy was revealed to be a sweet (if addled) husband and father who loved his wife and children despite the unending chaos and profanity that distinguished their home. The popularity of the series made Osbourne (and the rest of his brood) more famous than ever with many viewers who had never even heard his music. Along with wife Sharon, Ozzy became a symbol of modern parenting for some, and proof of American society's utter dysfunction to others. What's certain is that The Osbournes humanized the long-reviled singer's image and brought Ozzy mainstream television fame that no one could have ever predicted. ~ Fred Beldin, All Movie GuideThis edition of the Behind the Player series of interactive music videos teaches viewers how to play some of the popular songs by artist Blasko on the bass, with detailed instructions, as well as tips from the artist himself. ~ Cammila Albertson, All Movie Guide

Perhaps the single most influential band in the history of heavy metal, Black Sabbath took the blues-based riffing of British hard rock, turned down the tempos while turning up the amps, added an extra dose of their own signature minor-key thud, and created a sound that changed the shape of rock and roll forever. Black Sabbath: Never Say Die -- Live In 1978 is a concert video recorded during a 1978 tour date which proved to be one of the last the band would play with their classic lineup of Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Bill Ward and Geezer Butler; Osbourne left the band by the end of the year, and this lineup would not be heard from again until a concert tour in 1998 brought the original foursome back to the fold. Songs include "War Pigs", "Never Say Die", "Paranoid", "Dirty Women", and "Children of the Grave". ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

The youngest child of the family often has the most problems -- so why should things be different for the Prince of Darkness and his offspring? Satan (Harvey Keitel) is considering retirement, and is pondering which of his sons should take over the family business -- ambitious Adrian (Rhys Ifans), strapping Cassius (Tommy "Tiny" Lister Jr.), or Nicky (Adam Sandler), an accident-prone demon who prefers to stay in his room playing his favorite heavy metal tunes. When Satan decides to stay on for another 10,000 years, Adrian is outraged, and leaves Hell to go to New York, where he and Cassius attempt to round up enough souls to vote Satan out of power. Satan, understandably upset, sends Nicky to bring Adrian and Cassius back home, but Nicky finds life on Earth is more complicated than he expected. Things don't get any easier when he develops a crush on Valerie (Patricia Arquette), a good-hearted mortal woman. A group of radical Vietnam vets become broadcasting pirates and take on a Presidential candidate in this crazy comedy. The vets and their leader, "Captain," are television raiders flying all over the country in a B-29 they turned into flying broadcasting station S&M TV, jamming the airwaves wherever they go. Their self-assigned mission for the past 20 years is to keep the public informed about government activity to stop them from launching another foolish war like Vietnam. To do this they monitor the broadcasts of other television stations and when they don't like what they hear, they bust in and expose the lies. This documentary presents the personal accounts of many of rock & roll music's biggest stars as they share their personal war stories of life in the music business. Rock stars such as KISS, Ozzy Osbourne, and Poison give viewers an inside look at the often chaotic rock & roll business. Musical numbers are interspersed with interviews in this production. ~ Rose of Sharon Winter, All Movie Guide

Ozzy Osbourne, Gene Simmons, and Aerosmith's Joe Perry and Steven Tyler are among the Heavy Metal artists interviewed in The Decline of Western Civilization 2: The Metal Years. This follow-up to filmmaker Penelope Spheeris' classic 1981 "punk" documentary The Decline of Western Civilization is a bit more reflective and word-dominated than its predecessor, but no less entertaining. One striking aspect of the film is its before-and-after comparisons of the impact of MTV. Heavy Metal newcomers tend to overpraise the cable service, while the "oldsters" implicitly decry the mainstreaming-and in some cases, homogenizing--of their best work. Interestingly, Spheeris' own style has become more mainstream in the years since Decline of Western Civilization, thanks to experience gleaned on such dramatic films as Hollywood Vice Squad (1986) and Dudes (1987). ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Two guys from Queens wind up in trouble with the mob because of their fondness for prank phone calls in this quickie comedy. Stars Johnny Brennan and Kamal Ahmed first found fame as "The Jerky Boys" thanks to a series of comedy albums featuring real prank calls in which the duo assumed a variety of abrasive and often extremely foul-mouthed characters. Playing characters based on themselves, they reprise many of these same routines in this debut film, linking the comic bits together through a loose plot concerning local organized crime. It seems the boys have used their phone skills to trick a local mobster (Alan Arkin) into thinking that they are notorious Chicago hoods, only to have to go on the run when their scheme is discovered. Made to capitalize on a Jerky Boys fad, the film failed to attract much of an audience beyond their existing fans. ~ Judd Blaise, All Movie Guide

Arguably the most prolific figure in the history of heavy metal music, Ozzy Osbourne has for decades rocked metalheads to their very core. From his earliest days with the legendary Black Sabbath, to his popular solo efforts, to his massive Ozzfest tour featuring some of the most popular musicians of the genre, the notorious Osbourne has made headlines with his outrageous antics and stricken fear into the hearts of parents around the globe. A colorful personality to say the very least, the world would bear witness to an entirely different side of the metal madman when, in early 2002, reality television pioneer MTV debuted The Osbournes. A massive success that garnered the highest rating ever for an MTV premier and would subsequently build viewership ratings to become one of the most successful cable series' ever (even surpassing that of some network series), The Osbournes would breathe new life into Ozzy Osbourne's career and find his popularity soaring to new heights. With the colorful personalities of wife Sharon and children Jack and Kelly, one could never be sure of what would happen next on The Osbournes. This wild unpredictability, coupled with storylines often alternating between hilarious, poignant, and surreal, provided viewers with the ultimate peek into the personal life of a celebrity. Though many would subsequently attempt to emulate its success, few would lay claim to the fascinating personalities and unique dynamic that made The Osbournes so captivating. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide
