Pioneer presents this classical music program, featuring the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. In celebration of what would have been Bach's 250th birthday, organist Hans-Andre Stamm performs some of the composer's best-loved compositions on the Trost Organ in Waltershausen, Germany. The organ was once played by Bach himself. Along with various choral preludes, Stamm performs Toccata and Fugue in D minor, Präludium and Fugue in E flat major, and Passacaglia and Fugue in C minor. ~ Matthew Tobey, All Movie Guide

The secret word is "Happy New Year" as Pee-Wee Herman (Paul Reubens) and the Playhouse gang hold a Christmas party. Things threaten to get out of hand fairly early as the increasingly disappointed Pee-Wee receives one fruitcake after another. When he complains that he didn't get anything he really wanted, our hero learns an important lesson about sharing from none other than Santa Claus. Among Pee-wee's special guests are singers k.d. lang, Grace Jones, Dinah Shore, and the Del Rubio Triplets, "Beach Party" perennials Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon (who'd recently costarred with Pee-wee in the theatrical film Back at the Beach), the outrageous Little Richard (on ice-skates!) and such pop-culture giants as Oprah Winfrey, Charo, Cher, Joan Rivers, Magic Johnson, and even Zsa Zsa Gabor. Pee-wee Herman's Christmas Special first aired December 21, 1988 on CBS. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Wacky, prop-laden comedian Gallagher begins this concert video by rollerskating onto the stage. He then waxes philosophical about shoes. Then follows several shock-of-recognition jokes about coming of age in the sixties, an experience obviously shared by the comedian's exuberant audience. And bringing up the rear is the one, the only, Sledge-o-Matic routine. Stuck in the 60's just goes to show the sort of comedy material that influenced the style of current comic rage Carrot Top (though it would have been nice if Gallagher had mentioned the grandaddy of all "prop" comics, the immortal Ed Wynn). ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
The title is a bit of a misnomer. "Prop" comedian Gallagher is indeed the star, true enough. And he is quite mad. But as future concert videos would prove, what we see in this 1984 effort is hardly the "maddest" that Gallagher could be. The first of the comedian's video concerts, Gallagher: The Maddest comes to a halt directly after--you guessed it--SLEDGE-O-MATIC!!! ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
