The Brotherhood of the Wolf director Pascal Lauguier follows his 2004 thriller House of Voices with this relentlessly brutal tale of a girl who suffered unimaginable abuse as a young child, and the unspeakable horrors that unfold when she arrives at an isolated cabin in the woods fifteen years later. A tough cop makes a startling discovery about his wife and the leader of a band of bisexual sensualists in this erotic thriller. Without a plot to carry the action through its 78-minute running time and without characters that have the depth to do the same, this experimental film about the residents of a dilapidated Montreal tenement offers little to create and sustain interest. Among the inhabitants of the low-income apartment block are a drug dealer, a transvestite, a revolutionary, and other odd eccentrics, including excercise buffs and an erstwhile photographer.
