This horror spoof is chock full of obvious gags, scatological and crude sexual humor, and low-budget production values and centers on modern versions of Hollywood's most famous monsters who live together in a big cave. Drak plays the blood-sucking leader of Franky the bean-eating, explosively flatulent monster, Humper the hunchback, Wolfie the gay werewolf, and Mummy who has a strange profanity-spouting creature living in his belly. As the story begins, the creatures are trapped in the cave until Franky breaks hurricane-force wind that frees them to head for the nearby town of French Gulch, a burg that teeters on the brink of bankruptcy thanks to an enormous tax debt. The poor townsfolk only have one week to raise the fortune they need to save them. Fortunately, Franky and friends know where a secret stash of treasure is located and so go out to find it, using the old map they have in their possession. It leads them to a hotel where a masquerade party is in full swing. Things go well until Franky discovers that the kitchen is filled with his favorite food--canned chili.... ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi

Dan Curtis, director of TV's Dark Shadows series, directed this eerie haunted-house thriller about a house which draws energy from its inhabitants and selects its own "keeper" from the family of Ben and Marian Rolf (Oliver Reed & Karen Black), who rent the strangely-affordable house one fateful summer then find themselves slowly succumbing to its creepy powers. The photography is suitably moody, and many of the standard haunted-house cliches are used to decent effect -- particularly a violent scene in which the surrounding woods form a barrier to prevent the family station wagon from escaping the area -- but the pace is too leisurely overall, climaxing with the type of grim ending employed by nearly every mainstream horror film in the late 70's. Black's spooky looks are used to maximum effect, but are never quite as chilling as the final shot of Curtis's TV movie Trilogy of Terror from the previous year. ~ Cavett Binion, Rovi
