A 10-year-old genius embarks on a search for his real father, and gets more than a few unexpected surprises along the way in the quirky sophomore feature from Fireflies in the Garden writer/director Dennis Lee. Henry James Hermin (Jason Spevack) began speaking in full sentences before he was a year old. And before he's even reached his teens, he's already in college. But the older Henry gets, the more he begins to wonder why he doesn't have a father. The son of a left-wing feminist named Patricia (Toni Collette), Henry is investigating his origins when he's kicked out of school for penning a controversial essay, and his grandfather Stan (Frank Moore) makes a shocking revelation: Henry is a test-tube baby. Upon learning that he has a half-sister named Audrey (Samantha Weinstein), and that she was conceived so that her father Dr. Slavkin O'Hara (Michael Sheen) could pen a best-seller titled "Born Gay or Made That Way?" the precocious boy decides to seek out his long-lost sibling. Later, as Henry and Audrey attempt to map out their family tree, the twisted roots make tracing their origins a formidable challenge, and a new kind of family begins to emerge. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

After being pulled from CBS amid a flurry of controversy, The Reagans was finally aired on Showtime and went on to earn Golden Globe nominations for its stars, James Brolin and Judy Davis. Directed by Robert Allan Ackerman (Life With Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows) and based on a book by Carl Sferrazza Anthony, the film offers an intimate and some may say scathing look at the family behind one of the 20th century's most hotly debated presidencies. Also starring John Stamos and Zeljko Ivanek, the made-for-television biography is unrated. ~ Matthew Tobey, Rovi

Clearly inspired by the events surrounding the Bill Clinton sex scandal, the made-for-TV The Absolute Truth starsJane Seymour as Alison Reid, crusading anchorwoman for the top-rated TV magazine show "Focus." Upon obtaining evidence that powerful senator and presidential candidate Jake Slaughter (Bruce Greenwood) has sexually harassed his press secretary Jean Douglas (Linda Purl), Alison wants to make her findings public--but fears that she will damage the reputation of Jean, who happens to be her best friend. Not so nobly motivated is the production staff of "Focus", which uses questionable tactics to bring the truth forward, thereby revealing that Slaughter has secured Jean's silence by threatening to expose an unpleasant secret from her own past. An ironic ending caps this feature-length ethical debate, which originally aired April 30, 1997 on CBS. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Add Jack Reed: Death and Vengeance to Queue Add Jack Reed: Death and Vengeance to top of Queue
In this fifth TV movie based on the character of incorruptible Chicago detective Jack Reed, Brian Dennehy once again wears two hats as both star and director. A multiple murder has occurred in a suburban cemetery in broad daylight. Most of the victims are Russian immigrants, whose friends and relatives refuse to cooperate in the investigation conducted by Jack Reed (Dennehy). As he pursues the case, Reed learns that the central figure in the mystery is a militant Russian who is organizing several of his fellow émigrés into his own army. Meanwhile, Reed must also contend with influential mayoral candidate Gordon Thomas (Joe Morton), whose minions are strong-arming the department to drop vehicular homicide charges against his son. Despite his tawdry surroundings, Reed retains his patented wicked sense of humor, especially when reciting the required Miranda rights while cuffing perpetrators ("You've got the right to cable TV, and the right to free counseling by Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins.") Jack Reed: Death and Vengeance made its NBC debut on November 17, 1996. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

This Canadian production stars Gordon Currie as a charming but awkward vampire who is awakened from a decades-long nap by a runaway golf ball and eventually tries to readjust to life in the '90s with the help of a nutty, philosophical cab driver (Justin Louis) and the lovely proprietor of an all-night downtown donut shop (Helene Clarkson). The prospect of a relationship with the smart and spunky pastry wrangler is hindered, however, by the presence of Currie's former lover (Fiona Reid), to whom the last 25 years have been somewhat less kind. Director Holly Dale gleaned a surprising amount of humor from this premise, including a cameo from Toronto's duke of dementia David Cronenberg as a sleazeball gangster who constantly berates his underlings. ~ Cavett Binion, Rovi

For his second commercial feature, following a pair of experimental films and 1977's Shivers, Canadian horror auteur David Cronenberg continued to mine the themes of disease and mutation that were already becoming his perennial concerns. Marilyn Chambers stars as Rose, an attractive young woman who becomes horribly injured in a motorcycle accident. Spirited away to the clinic of Drs. Dan and Roxanne Keloid (Howard Ryshpan and Patricia Gage), a pair of experimental plastic surgeons, Rose becomes an unwitting guinea pig in an operation that grafts genetically modified tissue into her body. Waking from her coma to find she is unable to ingest normal food, Rose unwittingly feeds on human blood by means of a phallic organ that emerges from a vulval orifice in her armpit. Within hours of providing Rose with sustenance, her victims fall prey to an incurable, highly contagious disease that turns them into raving lunatics who foam at the mouth and attack others indiscriminately. Soon, Montreal is under martial law, but nobody can find the Typhoid Mary whose vampiric urges are driving the epidemic -- not even Hart (Frank Moore), Rose's befuddled boyfriend. Although she is best-known for her starring role in the crossover porn epic Behind the Green Door, Chambers actually received her start in features with 1970's The Owl and the Pussycat. Rabid also stars TV and stage veteran Joe Silver as Murray Cypher, a mutual friend of Hart and the Keloids. ~ Brian J. Dillard, Rovi

The Canadian The Supreme Kid was originally and economically filmed in 16-millimeter. The "heroes" are two drifters, played by Frank Moore and Jim Henshaw. The two are disdainfully referred to as "hippos," or hippie hoboes; one is the domineering mentor, the other the unquestioning follower. While on their aimless trek through the Great White North, the hippos meet a promiscuous young girl, as well as a less appealing holdup man. Morris and Henshaw find themselves with thousands of dollars of stolen loot at the end, but chuck it all to continue their vagabondage. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
