The easily offended might do best to avoid Jim Jefferies' raunchy, rude humor (or at least imbibe the two-drink minimum beforehand), but the Australian-born comedian provides plenty of laughs for everyone else in this HBO special. Based on the popular British series Not the Nine O'Clock News, Not Necessarily the News was an iconoclastic HBO cable-TV weekly series which ran from 1983 to 1986. Using stock film clips and incongrous narration, the cast members skewer not only the "names" in the news, but also the whole network news industry. Rabbetted between these bits are devastating and often scatological commercial parodies. The cast includes Anne Bloom, Stuart Pankin, Rich Hall, Lucy Webb, Audrey Neenan, Tom Parks, Mitchell Laurence, Danny Breen and Annabelle Gurwitch.
