Nico Minardos Movies
Greco-American actor Nico Minardos inaugurated his film career in 1955. Many of his earlier assignments were unstressed minor roles like "Ali" in the Errol Flynn starrer Istanbul (1956). His larger parts include Carlos, potential "Latin Lover" to tourists Jill St. John and Carol Lynley, in Holiday For Lovers (1959), and hard-bitten westerner DeLeon in Day of the Evil Gun (1968). Hannibal's perennial nemesis Colonel Lynch (William Lucking) is in a festive mood when he finally succeeds in capturing the A-Team. But Lynch's exultation is short-lived: He is ordered to release the team by his superiors, who want Hannibal (George Peppard) and company to head to Borneo, there to rescue kidnapped army general Ludlam (Warren Kemmerling) and his daughter Kathy (Amy Steel). The assignment proves most difficult for B.A. (Mr. T) who once cold-cocked the General back in Vietnam. Laslo Benedek's adaptation of the Alan Caillou suspense novel never received a Greek theatrical release, despite its being shot entirely in Greece and co-produced (with the British Nine Network) by its Greek star, Nico Minardos. The film tells the tale of a World War II guerrilla leader named Agathon (Yiorgos Moussou), long believed to be dead, who has resurfaced to plot a revolution in the Balkans. Minardos plays Cabot Cain, an Interpol agent who travels to Greece in order to discover Agathon's lair and prevent the uprising. The film employed a demented set of casting decisions which put everyone from Nina Van Pallandt and John Woodvine to Marianne Faithfull and Kostas Baladimas into the fray, and resembles such international misfires as Jungle Warriors (which also featured Van Pallandt) more than the big-budget mainstream actioner which it was obviously intended to be. ~ Robert Firsching, All Movie Guide

Ironside's associates Ed (Don Galloway) and Eve (Barbara Anderson) are dispatched to Mexico, there to interrogate onetime murder suspect Lonnie Burnett (Scott Glenn) as a part of an investigation of a strikingly similar killing. In the course of events, the two detectives are persuaded that Burnett is innocent. George Kennedy plays a tough San Diego police sergeant who quits the force when his wife is killed. He becomes a priest, and is assigned to a parish in his old precinct. Champing at the bit, "Sarge", as the priestly Kennedy is known to his friends, offers his investigative talents to the local constabulary. Sarge gets down to business immediately by solving a tricky homicide case. Badge or the Cross was the pilot film for George Kennedy's subsequent TV series Sarge, which ran for a single season in 1971-72. In this limp western melodrama, when Mexican bandit Hector Cordoba (Raf Vallone) attacks a U.S. Army fort a few miles from the Mexican border, General John Pershing (John Russell) orders Captain Rod Douglas (George Peppard) to organize a group of soldiers to cross the border into Mexico to capture Cordoba and to bring him back to the U.S. for trial. When Douglas's band cross into Mexico, Douglas meets Leonora (Giovanna Ralli), a beautiful Mexican woman raped by Cordoba, who agrees to lead the Americans to Cordoba's stronghold. But Leonora is not entirely trustworthy, and when the Americans reach the fort, Cordoba takes them prisoners. Warfield (Glenn Ford) is the dispassionate ex-gunslinger who joins forces with peaceful neighbor Forbes (Arthur Kennedy) to help him track down the Apache Indians who have kidnapped Warfield's wife and children two months prior. In searching for the abductees, the hardened gunslinger eventually keeps a level head while the even-tempered Forbes turns into a cold-blooded killing machine. Warfield and Forbes eventually complete their personality changes that lead to the inevitable western showdown. Completed in 1968, the made-for-TV The Challengers wasn't telecast until one year later. This Grand Prix melodrama top-bills Darren McGavin as a veteran racer whose wife (Juliet Mills) wants him to retire. A secondary plot involves Sean Garrison and Nico Minardos, who carry their on-track rivalry into their private lives. Anne Baxter, Susan Clark, and Sal Mineo are also on hand to urge on the winners, comfort the losers, and spout the cliches. Nehemiah Persoff guest-stars as Prince Iben Kostas, absolute ruler of a tiny Middle Eastern country whose income derives solely from a famous gambling casino. In order to prevent Kostas from raising the money necessary to wage war upon a neighboring oil-rich country, the IMF must arrange to break the casino's bank. In the first episode of a two-part story, Jason (Chuck Connors) intervenes when ruthless cattle baron Aaron Shields (Gary Merrill) orders the flogging of Kolyan (Nico Minardos), the leader of a gypsy tribe. This action earns Jason the undying hatred of Shields, but has a completely different effect on Shields' daughter Robin (Ahna Capri). When he discovers that his own daughter Robin (Ahna Capri) has given the gypsies the bail money for Jason's release, the outraged Shields orders his henchman to wipe out the entire tribe--with an especially grisly fate reserved for gypsy leader Kolyan (Nico Minardos). Before going into the furniture business full-time, actor George Montgomery produced and directed a number of lively Philippine-based actioners. In Samar, Montgomery plays a mercenary who is shipped off to a 19th-century Spanish penal colony. The man in charge of Samar, played by Gilbert Roland, is a kindly sort who operates his prison on democratic principles. Evil inspector Nico Minardos disapproves of Roland's humanitarian treatment of his prisoners, and orders that Samar be closed. Roland responds by destroying the camp, freeing the prisoners, and taking Minardos hostage. With Montgomery's help, Roland escapes into the jungle, seeking out a new, more remote location for his idealized prison without walls. Released just in time for Easter on April 27, 1962, this Rod Serling-scripted Twilight Zone episode is widely regarded as the series' low point. A ham-handed Christ parable, the story is set in a backward Mexican village, where the arrival of a mysterious stranger named Williams (Geoffrey Horne) brings out the superstitious worst in the local citizenry. Only little Pedro (Edmund Vargas) and the town's doctor (Nico Minardos) refuse to regard Williams as a threat, but they are shouted down by a hostile mob, leading to a painfully obvious climax that wouldn't have gotten past "Creative Writing 101." The sole redeeming virtue of "The Gift" was its classical guitar score by the great Laurindo Almeida. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

This drama, based on a true story, chronicles the exploits of a gorgeous Greek actress who decrees that she will marry the winner of the 26-mile marathon at the 1896 Olympic Games in Athens. It will be the first time the race has been run in 2,672 years. The actress does this because she is sure that her true-love will win. The real winner is a poor shepherd. Although this quickly made, routine drama has some future television talent acting in it (Barbara Eden, Gavin MacLeod, Ted Knight), the story wanders back and forth between straight drama and an unintentional parody. Martin (Nico Minardos) has just witnessed a murder and in order to protect him, the police establish him in relative obscurity in a suburban neighborhood. What Martin does not know is that one of the policemen is not what he seems, and the cop sets up the unsuspecting man as a target to be eliminated. Director Henry Levin followed up this light romantic comedy with Where the Boys Are and started a beach trend going. This conventional story stars one of his favorite actors Clifton Webb as Robert Dean, the father of two lively teen-age daughters. He and his wife Mary (Jane Wyman) accompany their daughters on a South American junket. Meg (Jill St. John) and Betsy (Carol Lynley the 17-year-old model turned actress) are the teens. Since Robert is a psychiatrist, one would assume he has the inside scoop on the teen years, but as the family make stops in Lima, Sao Paulo, and Rio de Janeiro it is clear that the daughters are winning the day. Again he is pursued by both authorities and criminals. He must also contend with the reappearance of his wife whom he thought had burned to death on their wedding night.
