Originally telecast from 1985 to 1992, the popular sitcom Growing Pains briefly roared back into life with this made-for-TV movie. The proceedings commence with Dr. Jason Seaver (Alan Thicke, who also coproduced the film) offering a capsule summary of what has been going on with himself and his family since the cancellation of their series. Then the story segues into an amusingly complicated tale of romance and politics, as Jason's wife Maggie (Joanna Kerns), fired by her politician boss, decides to run against her ex-employer in an upcoming primary. The fun really begins when Jason and Maggie's daughter Carol (Tracey Gold), now a high-profile attorney, falls in love with the rival politico's campaign manager. Meanwhile, Carol's brother Mike (Kirk Cameron) continues seeking out his true place in the world, and younger sister Chrissy (Ashley Johnson) has a few problems of her own sustaining her high GPA in school. The Growing Pains Movie first aired on November 5, 2000, as a two-hour episode of ABC's The Wonderful World of Disney anthology. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

In a major stumbling block toward better international relations, America's most laughable police officers are sent to Russia to fight crime in this comedy. In Moscow, master criminal Konali (Ron Perlman) has marketed a new computer game that has an unusual hidden feature -- it allows him to bring down any security system controlled by a PC on which the game has been played, with a string of major robberies as the result. Russian Police Commandant Rakov (Christopher Lee) is at his wit's end about how to deal with the crisis, so he asks for help from the U.S. law enforcement community. However, Rakov's American allies turn out to be Lassard (George Gaynes), Harris (G.W. Bailey), and the rest of the crew from the Police Academy (among them Michael Winslow, David Graf, and Leslie Easterbrook). Claire Forlani also appears in a small role as a Russian beauty. This was the seventh and last film in the Police Academy series, following the departure of franchise loyalist Bubba Smith. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Working Trash's ad copy consisted of a photo of a large threaded screw, with the caption "Tonight, two working stiffs are going to do to Wall Street what it's done to us." Wink wink, nudge nudge. The two stiff workers--er, working stiffs--are George Carlin and Ben Stiller, janitors in a large brokerage firm. By utilizing the inside information they've gleaned from their employers' wastebasket, Carlin and Stiller proceed to strike it rich on the market. Buddy Ebsen costars as the head broker, looking as confused as we are at finding him in this TV movie. Working Trash premiered on the Fox Network--as if there was any doubt. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Self-made wealthy guy Rodney Dangerfield decides he needs a better education--and also to spend some time away from his cheating new wife. Dangerfield joins his son Keith Gordon at college. Dad hopes to gain his son's respect (isn't that always Dangerfield's motivation?), while son tries to fit in with his snobbish and brutish fellow students. English professor Sally Kellerman forms a strong bond with Dangerfield, encouraging both father and son to stick out their first year despite all odds. The finale involves some slapstick at the swimming pool diving board, and the obligatory commencement address delivered by Dangerfield, who proves that he can crack jokes without tugging at his tie. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

On her first day at an all-girls Catholic High School in Chicago, shy and reserved Janey Glenn (Sarah Jessica Parker) meets the wild and wacky Lynne Sands (Helen Hunt). Even though her oppressive dad, Col. Glenn (Ed Lauter), won't let her go, Lynne talks her into sneaking out to try out for a spot on the beloved show Dance TV. Janey wows the judges with her gymnastic ability and makes first cuts, conveniently assigned to a cute dance partner: blue-collar bad boy Jeff Malene (Lee H. Montgomery). They compete against the bratty rich girl Natalie Sands (Holly Gagnier), who sabotages them because she wants Jeff and the contest for herself. Janey and Lynne get revenge by inviting punks and street kids to crash her debutante ball. Natalie then resorts to making her wealthy industrialist dad, J.P. Sands (Morgan Woodward), threaten Jeff; If he doesn't let Natalie win, his dad (Biff Yeager) could lose his job at the factory. It all leads up to the live television broadcast of the Dance TV contest, right when Janey's dad races to the studio to stop her.
