Indian director Rajeev Manoj Virani's cross-cultural romance My Bollywood Bride follows the love affair that unexpectedly blossoms between a hunky, fair-haired American novelist named Alex (Jason Lewis) and an ebullient Indian tour guide named Reena (Kashmera Shah). The two fall in love in Los Angeles, but are then forcibly separated by circumstance, as Reena must return to Asia to tend to her seriously ill father and enter an arranged marriage with a cocky, egomaniacal producer named Shekhar (Gulshan Grover). Failing to understand (or accept) these circumstances, Alex then flies to India, heart-in-tow, determined to win Reena back - and immediately runs head-first into madcap conflicts with both Shekhar and Reena's parents. Sanjay Suri co-stars as Reena's Indian pal Bobby, who makes a series of unsuccessful attempts to keep Alex out of trouble as the American vies for Reena's heart. Shah, Brad Listermann and Richard Martini co-authored the script. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide

Follow the adventures of a stolen video camera as it constantly changes hands in filmmaker Richard Martini's unhinged entry into the Dogme movement. From landing in the hands of tourists, celebrity stalkers, and even a fearless sky diver, the well-traveled camcorder continues to turn-up in the most unlikely of places. After being pawned, stolen, and lost by a series of well-traveled owners, the camera eventually lands in the hands of a wannabe filmmaker running short on original ideas. When an old friend gives the filmmaker the unique idea of making a movie about the worldly camera's well-documented adventures, the images that appear on the tape serve as the inspiration for a film that promises something special for everyone. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

A young Ohio man moves to Los Angeles in search of a career and a girlfriend in this romantic comedy, whose action centers on the '80s singles scene. Eddy (David Packer) heads to California after his cousin, Skip (Scott McGinnis), promises him a job in the ad biz, but Eddy ends up with the unenviable task of handing out flyers on the beach. Turning his focus from the professional to the romantic, Eddy joins a video dating service and endures a series of inaccurate match-ups that drive him to adopt wilder and wilder guises for his video ads. Along the way, he meets Peggy Kellogg (Bridget Fonda), an employee of the dating service, but she's always got her boyfriend on her arm. Frustrated over Peggy's inaccessibility and the dead-end job he's unfairly been stuck with, Eddy finally decides to take a gamble -- to be himself in the yuppie fantasia of L.A. The soundtrack to You Can't Hurry Love features singer Phil Collins' cover of the '60s song from which the film takes its name. Kristy McNichol, Charles Grodin, and Sally Kellerman all appear in cameo roles. Kellerman previously appeared in writer/director Richard Martini's previous outing as a screenwriter, Three for the Road. ~ Brian J. Dillard, All Movie Guide

In 1982, there was a brief cycle of homosexual-relationship films, none of which were successful enough to form the basis of a trend. Producer/director/writer Robert Towne's Personal Best is one of the finest. It stars Mariel Hemingway and Patrice Donnelly as athletes participating in the 1980 Olympics. Growing ever closer during the training process, Chris (Hemingway) and Tory (Donnelly) fall in love. Up to this point, Chris has been "straight," thus has trouble sustaining the relationship with older Tory. Their relationship is counterbalanced with the attitudes held by their male coach, Terry (Scott Glenn). While the homosexual element of the film is secondary to the endless shots of athletes in training, the critics latched on to the film's romantic angle, which may have sabotaged its chances for box-office success (the world was a different place in 1982). Personal Best was the directorial debut for Robert Towne, who was not to direct another film until 1987's Tequila Sunrise. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
