In this made-for-TV movie edited from episodes of the television series Power Rangers: Time Force, the time-travelling Power Rangers -- Trip (Kevin Kleinberg), Lucas (Michael Copon), Jen (Erin Cahill), and Katie (Deborah Estelle Phillips) -- are warned by Alex (Jason Faunt) that their nemesis, Frax (Eddie Frierson), is building a killer super-robot that will be able to level entire cities. Frax, however, has managed to slip into the year 3000 in order to build his deadly contraption, and the Time Force must zoom through the millennium in order to prevent Doomtron's wrath. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

The titular "final ascent" in this made-for-cable thriller begins as a group of inexperienced backpackers are shepherded through a particular treacherous stretch of the Rockies by an experienced pair of guides. Among the "greenhorns" is a pack of thieves who are searching for money they had stolen and lost. Once the villains are revealed, it becomes obvious that they aren't about to allow the guides or the other tourists to return from the mountain alive, and thus a deadly cat-and-mouse game develops between two of the main characters, played by Antonio Sabato Jr. and Patrick Muldoon. The striking similarities between this film and the Sylvester Stallone theatrical feature Cliffhanger are underlined by a subplot involving a climber who cannot get over the fact that he caused the death of his daughter in previous ascent. Hampered by too much dialogue and too many blatantly obvious studio "exteriors", Final Ascent was first telecast November 11, 2000 on the Lifetime network, where it has since been rerun under the all-purpose title Final Descent. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Based on the hit children's television series The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, this film has the teenage superheroes doing battle with the other-worldly villainess Divatox (Hilary Shepard Turner). She is the wife of an evil lord named Maligore who is imprisoned in an energy vacuum inside one of Earth's volcanos. Freeing him would mean doom for the universe. Divatox needs to bring a good wizard named Lerigot (Jon Simanton) to the volcano, because he has the key to unlocking the energy prison. Lerigot flees his planet and escapes to Earth just before Divatox's henchmen capture him. The five Rangers disguise themselves as ordinary teenagers, but their secret is discovered by ten-year-old Justin (Blake Foster), and he is allowed to don a power suit and become one of them. Zordon, the Power Rangers' boss, gives his crew extra powers to thwart Divatox, who with her pirates has captured a submarine. The showdown between the forces of universal good and evil includes plenty of karate and kick-boxing around a seething cauldron of lava. ~ Michael Betzold, Rovi

The popular children's television show comes to the screen in this sci-fi adventure about a group of teenage superheroes battling an evil leader bent on world domination. The film's six heroes lead double existences as normal young teens who, when needed, don color-coded costumes to become the Power Rangers. Under the guidance of the valiant Zordon (Nicholas Bell), the Rangers fight crime with kung-fu skills and specialized attack vehicles. This time, the Rangers are battling Ivan Ooze (Paul Freeman), a millennia-old villain who hopes to take over the world with an army of phlegm creatures. The Rangers' only hope for victory is to acquire a special power source, leading to a dangerous journey into outer space. Despite the larger budget, the film remains true to the style of the show, which often recalls Japanese monster movies in its depictions of battling giant monsters through obvious special effects. The fast-paced fantasy action attracted a good portion of its intended youthful audience, while not becoming quite as much of a sensation as the TV series; some adults attacked the film for its reliance on violence (though of a bloodless, cartoon variety) and its status as a blatant promotional tool for the best-selling Power Ranger toys. ~ Judd Blaise, Rovi

Shannon Doherty stars in this typical erotic thriller as a disenchanted rich woman who has an affair with her therapist (Judd Nelson). The threat comes in the form of a mysterious killer who handcuffs and blindfolds his victims. Writer-director Lawrence Simeone hints at dark and kinky psychological undercurrents which remain unexplored in favor of the usual slow-motion couplings, making this another forgettable addition to an unnecessarily crowded subgenre. ~ Robert Firsching, Rovi

For a couple of years during the mid '90s, the Menendez Brothers, Lyle and Erik, held the country's interest after they stood trial for cold-bloodedly killing their parents. The murders took place in L.A., where both victims had successful Hollywood careers. What shocked the nation was that the nicely dressed, soft-spoken defendants claimed their parents abused them all their life. This sensationalistic dramatization is the first of several TV movies that exploited the brothers and their trial. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi

Shuki Levy, best known for his work on behalf of the Saban Entertainment animated-cartoon firm, directs a group of "live" performers in Blind Vision. Lenny Von Dohlen stars as nerdish mail clerk, who worships Deborah Shelton from afar. Emulating Hitchcock's Rear Window (or is it DePalma's Body Double?), Von Dohlen watches his dream girl through a highpowered lens. When one of Shelton's boyfriends turns up dead, Von Dohlen is sucked into a vortex of intrigue. Don't be lulled into the sense of deja vu in the early reels; this one's got quite a few tricks up its sleeve. Written by Levy and his frequent Saban collaborator Winston Rickard, Blind Vision costars Robert Vaughn (as "Mr. X"!), Ned Beatty, and Louise Fletcher; the film was lensed on location in Norfolk, Virginia. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

This slow-moving occult thriller has Pamela Sue Martin and hubbie Tim Matheson menaced by a coven of witches when they move to an island off the coast of Massachusetts. Director Carl Schenkel -- who went on to make the interesting Knight Moves -- does the best he can with a tedious script and a lot of miscasting, but it doesn't make the movie any more interesting. It looks like a who's who of '80s sitcoms, with Woody Harrelson, Jeff Conaway, and Inga Swenson along for the evil doings, but some viewers will be rolling on the floor when they see Leave It to Beaver's Barbara Billingsley as a 300-year-old witch. The highlight of the film is an exploding church, which may just be loud enough to wake you up so you can rewind the tape. ~ Robert Firsching, Rovi

This sword-and-sorcery animated feature basically stars two "toys" -- She-Ra (voice of Melanie Britt) and He-Man (voice of John Erwin). Princess Adora has a special destiny -- to manifest as She-Ra and save Etheria from the really nasty Horde -- but she is not aware of her power-to-be. When Prince Adam (who is really He-Man) goes to Etheria to find the future She-Ra, his job is cut out for him -- or at least drawn out in standard animation but with added visual tricks that entertain the eye. He and She-Ra wreak havoc on the nasties, so violence is not absent -- just concentrated on the enemies. This feature was quickly followed by She-Ra: Princess of Power in 1986. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi

Lucky Luke, the cowboy, his faithful horse Jolly Jumper, and his dog Rantanplan, are all out fighting their perennial enemies, the Dalton brothers, in this cooperative animated adventure from Hanna-Barbera and Morris Gascinny. To accommodate American audiences, Hanna-Barbera removed Luky Luke's ever-present cigarette, and eliminated some of his "ethnic" pals to avoid any potential problems in the minority department. For many Luke fans, these alterations were tantamount to destroying a character they have known since 1945, and so the feature was bound to receive mixed reviews by those for and against the changes. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi

In spite of some interesting names attached to this low-budget, embarrassing horror film (Rafael Buñuel, son of acclaimed Luis Buñuel is the co-writer and co-producer), the result is anemic. At the core of the story, seven athletes in training for the Olympics at the Falcon Academy of Athletics in Massachusetts are violently slain by a killer with a wicked javelin toss. Most of the women in the film are portrayed as lesbians (apparently a straight woman can do no more than wield a wicked crochet hook), or their gender is indeterminate because of the drugs they imbibe -- a side issue in the film. Clichéd, predictable, and lacking in suspense, Fatal Games was never released theatrically. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi

Add Dawn of the Mummy to Queue Add Dawn of the Mummy to top of Queue
This film's title clearly reflects the two films that most inspired it: The Mummy and Dawn of the Dead. The plot involves a group of jet-setting fashion models and photographers who choose the tomb of an evil and sadistic pharaoh named "Seferaman" as the setting for their Egyptian-themed magazine shoot. Since these characters are also phenomenally stupid, it's only a matter of time before someone's disturbing the hot-tempered pharaoh's beauty rest, prompting the mummy and his cannibal companions to rise from their dusty graves and tear the infidel defilers to shreds. Good camerawork, voracious gore effects, and the chaotic mummies-in-the-streets finale recall some of the better Italian zombie epics -- but this resemblance unfortunately extends to the typically threadbare plot, which requires each and every character to plow headfirst into situations that almost guarantee death or dismemberment. ~ Cavett Binion, Rovi
