In this adventure film, the ill-matched passengers on an airplane riding above the jungles and rainforests of South America struggle to survive when their vehicle crashes. They endure the usual rigors of the forests, plus attacks by native tribesmen. One of the former passengers is a scholar, and he becomes excited when he notices fossilized dinosaur footprints on the path they are walking on. Eventually, the group passengers, which includes an unusually large number of pretty women, are captured by a greedy man who wants to use them all in his slave-labor operation. Voluptuous screen siren Edwige Fenech headlines this bawdy comedy about an Italian policewoman recruited to help take down a powerful crime boss. Try as they might, the authorities just can't seem to slap Italian crime boss Big John (Aldo Maccione) with any charges that stick. Leave it to American FBI Agent Maccarone to notice that Italian policewoman Gianna (Fenech) and her assistant Alvaro Tarallo (Alvaro Vitali) bear an uncanny resemblance to Big John's girlfriend Pupa and his bodyguard Joe Dodiciomicidi. Now, in order to bust Big John for good, Agent Maccarone recruits Gianna and Alvaro to infiltrate the organization and gather evidence. This late-period entry into the cycle of Italian crime films is a prototypical example of the form. Italian action star Luc Merenda stars as Dario Mauri, a Milanese cop who is transferred to Naples. He immediately sets his sights on bringing down crime boss Laurenzi (Claudio Gora), with begrudging assistance from his wisecracking new partner, Capece (Enzo Cannavale). Laurenzi also has other problems to deal with: one of his drug shipments has been stolen and attempts to get it back reveal traitors in his midst. A Man Called Magnum is unique in the Italian crime subgenre for two reasons. The first is that it was directed by Michele Massimo Tarantini, who dabbled in action but was better known for directing sex comedies. The other reason is that mixes in a surprising amount of comedy, usually involving the character of Capece, for this usually grim subgenre.
