Erotic thriller starring Playboy Playmate turned B-movie queen Shannon Tweed that features an atypical emphasis on the mystery at the heart of its plot. Tweed stars as Eve, the hostess of a late-night radio call-in show about sex and relationships. Despite her area of expertise, Eve is unhappily married to Philip (Vernon Wells), who treats his beautiful wife like one of his valuable possessions. When she meets Edge (Emile Levisetti), a talented sculptor, Eve is instantly smitten and quickly embarks on a torrid affair with the young artist. Worried that Philip will discover her infidelity, Eve grows even more concerned when Edge steals Philip's gun. She enlists two friends, Kate (Catherine Oxbenberg) and Peter (David Kriegel) to break into Edge's apartment and seek information about his past and identity. Hulk Hogan, in an inarguably appropriate casting choice, plays a professional wrestler in this action-packed drama. Rip (Hogan) is a grappling star who is approached by Brell (Kurt Fuller), the new head of the World Television Network. Brell wants Rip to wrestle on his network, but Rip insists on honoring his commitment to another outlet. Brell responds by launching a show called "Battle of the Tough Guys," in which the beefy regulars of a particularly rough drinking establishment fight each other on camera. Zeus (Tom "Tiny" Lister, Jr.) soon emerges as the bad guy champion on this new show, and Brell uses Rip's friendship with his assistant Samantha (Joan Severance) to arrange a bout between Zeus and Rip. This drama concerns a romance that crosses the lines of North and South during the American Civil War. Colombine (Jamie Rose) is a Yankee war widow who one day welcomes an ailing traveling salesman into her home. As the two interact, she falls in love and eventually the "salesman" reveals he is actually a Confederate soldier. Neither does anything about it for the time being, but both the Confederate soldier and a friend of Colombine's try to bolster her sense of self-worth and purpose. When it first came out, this erotic thriller was billed as the first adult film in South Africa. Set in Los Angeles, the story centers upon Brent Huff, a hard-boiled detective takes a case that takes him to the Bahamas where he gets involved with a seductive Beverly Hills vamp and unsuccessfully tries to make their nights as steamy as they are hot. Unfortunately for him, she is still grieving over the death of her husband and does not accept him as her lover until they return to LA. Walter Matthau plays a CIA agent who's been confined by office politics to a desk job. The disgruntled Matthau quits the service and heads to Europe, where he links up with former lover (an fellow ex-agent) Glenda Jackson. All goes smoothly until Matthau acts on the advice of yet another retired agent, Russian Herbert Lom, who suggests that Matthau write a tell-all autobiography. Spitefully, Matthau sends out copies of his first chapter to the heads of the CIA agencies throughout the world--and from that point on, he and Jackson don't have a moment's peace. This delights Matthau: now that all of his former colleagues are chasing after him, he has a reason to get up in the morning. As written by Brian Garfield, Hopscotch was a conventionally serious espionage novel. As adapted for the big screen by Garfield and Bryan Forbes, Hopscotch is a lively exercise in cloak-and-dagger comedy, even when the pursuit of Matthau turns deadly towards the end. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Kim Novak is clearly out of her depth as legendary Broadway actress Jeanne Eagels, but one can't fault her for trying very hard. As this filmed biography gets under way, wide-eyed Eagels finds herself stranded in a tank town by a smooth-talking traveling salesman. Carnival operator Sal Satori hires Eagels as a kootch dancer, but her ambition is to become a serious dramatic actress. When she and Sal reach New York, she signs up for acting lessons under the tutelage of a Mme. Neilson (Agnes Moorehead). Before long, Jeanne is understudying on Broadway, and in 1922 she takes audiences and critics by storm with her unforgettable portrayal of Sadie Thompson in Rain, a role she landed by ruthlessly double-crossing the actress originally slated for the part (Virginia Grey). When her rival commits suicide, the chastened Jeanne turns to booze and drugs to assuage her conscience. The real-life Jeanne Eagels died of narcotics addiction in 1929, a fact that the Hollywood version skims over. Eagels' family sued Columbia Pictures over the "distortions" offered in Jeanne Eagels. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
