This reality show conducted a nationwide search for "America's newest sex symbols." Over the course of six weeks, a stunning collection of gorgeous male and female contestants paraded before the cameras in brief bathing suits, while a celebrity panel assessed their sexiness on the basis of facial and body attractiveness. The first four episodes narrowed the field to 16 contestants, eight men and eight women. The finalist were selected via a viewer poll on the last episode. Dirk Longstreet is back, and he's madder than ever. Longstreet (French action figure Olivier Gruner), a college professor who is a retired martial arts champion, is called into service when his girlfriend, the ambitious reporter Nicole Kent (softcore veteran Gail Harris), is caught by the corrupt guards of a corrupt prison run by a corrupt warden as she captures on video the corrupt kickboxing-to-the-death contests staged for the amusement of the prisoners. They let a very large prisoner, Pike (Jim Shagen), have his way with her (off camera, thankfully). As the now-comatose Nicole hangs onto life in a hospital, Longstreet, with the help of a newspaper reporter (Lorenzo Lamas) and his editor (Jalal Merhi), shaves his head and goes into the prison to bring the villains to their knees, and if he has to break them first, all the better. ~ Buzz McClain, All Movie Guide
Not dissimilar to such earlier Hollywood features as Boys' Ranch and Johnny Holiday, this made-for-cable drama stars Bruce Boxleitner as ex-cop and former marine J.T. Hope. The owner of a 2,000-acre ranch in Utah, Hope makes it his mission in life to rehabilitate youngsters who, as a result of their criminal records, have been deemed incorrigible. In this instance, Hope focuses his attention on a trio of street punks, including incipient drug-dealer Keith Frazier (Brian Gross). With the help of his no-nonsense ranchhands Colt (Lorenzo Lamas) and Shorty (Barry Corbin), Hope works the boys hard and long (12 hours a day, in fact), tending the horses, cleaning out the barns, and tackling other such grueling chores -- all the while promising the kids that if after two weeks they have straightened themselves out, they will not have to return to the penal system. At first reacting in horror to the strict regimen of Hope's ranch (one of the teens declares, "What is this? An episode of Survivor?"), two of the boys begin showing signs of redemption, and even begin to enjoy their working vacation in the great outdoors. Alas, Keith proves to be a bigger challenge than Hope had anticipated, especially when the boy steals some horse tranquilizers and escapes into the mountains. A man learns the downside of trusting your friends in this thriller. Mitch (Lorenzo Lamas) is a pressman who receives a call from Dennis, a close friend from childhood. Dennis asks Mitch to give him back the $10,000 he lent him years ago. Mitch has no memory of borrowing that kind of money, but he figures that his friend wouldn't try to cheat him. However, it turns out that Dennis now works as a bookie, and he's invented the story of Mitch's debt in order to shame Mitch into helping him with a counterfeiting scheme that he's become involved with through a Mafia underling. Actor/writer/director Albert Brooks turns his satiric gaze on the film industry in this comedy about a screenwriter who has hit a rough patch. Steven Philips (played by Brooks) has enjoyed a celebrated career in Hollywood, but one day he has a meeting with his agent, who informs him his career is suddenly going nowhere. Steven quickly finds himself at the end of his rope and is unable to put a decent sentence on paper. Desperate, he hears that there's a bona fide muse in Hollywood, Sarah (played by Sharon Stone), who might be able to help with his problems. The writer contacts Sarah, hoping a good, stong dose of inspiration will get his career back on track. However, Sarah's late hours and endless demands don't do much to help Steven's relationship with his wife (Andie MacDowell). A man needing some easy money finds danger instead in this sexy thriller. Mike Aguayo (Lorenzo Lamas) is a former police detective who has moved to Puerto Rico, where he runs a night club. But business is bad, and Mike is hounded by creditors; in desperate need of some quick money, he accepts an unusual offer from a gangster who wants Mike to seduce his wife. The mobster's logic is that if he can prove Mike and his wife have had sex, he can divorce her as an adulteress. This silly, over-the-top action film has a great hammy performance by Gary Busey as the insane leader of a militia group intent on revenge against the government for doing psychotropic experiments on them after Vietnam. Busey also had his privates mutilated by a Viet-Cong prostitute, so he's a vicious razor-blade rapist, too. Lorenzo Lamas and Kristen Cloke are FBI "mindhunters" trying to stop him, but they lose their badges because of evil boss Roy Scheider, who still blames Lamas for his career troubles after a botched Ruby Ridge-type standoff. There are way too many plot threads dangling everywhere -- including the hesitant romance between Lamas and Cloke -- and the screenplay seems to reference every news item concerning the FBI in the last ten years to no good end. Still, those in search of mindless shootouts and hissable villains will find enough to enjoy over beer and pork rinds. ~ Robert Firsching, All Movie Guide
