Oliver (Ewan McGregor) is an illustrator with a history of failed relationships. Growing up, he spent much of his time with his eccentric mother, Georgia (Mary Page Keller), while his father, Hal (Christopher Plummer), supported the arts as the curator of a local museum. Though Oliver's parents never divorced, as a young boy he always sensed a distance between them -- a distance, Oliver discovers following his mother's death years later, that resulted from the fact that his father had lived most of his life as a closeted homosexual. With his wife gone and his son grown up, 75-year-old Hal decides to finally embrace his sexuality and takes a young boyfriend (Goran Visnjic). When Hal's health takes a turn for the worse, Oliver steps up to care for him while recalling quiet conversations and eventful trips to the museum with his unpredictable mother -- a dyed-in-the-wool eccentric. Gradually, Oliver begins to see his father in a whole new light. Later, Oliver falls for pretty French actress Anna (Mélanie Laurent) after a chance meeting at a costume party. The more intimate Oliver and Anna become, the more they both realize they share one defining character flaw -- the moment any relationship turns serious, they run away. For Oliver it means shutting himself in and obsessing over his work; for Anna it's as easy as checking into another empty hotel room in yet another strange city -- one of the perks, as it were, of having an itinerant job. After moving in together, the dysfunctional couple realizes that overcoming their hard-wired relationship issues is more difficult than either of them expected. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Master chef Emeril Lagasse, the garrulous star of one of cable TV's most popular cooking shows, played "himself" in this eponymously titled NBC sitcom. The story lines revolved around the behind-the-scenes intrigues attending Emeril's weekly TV series and his clashes with his virtually all-female production staff: producer Cassandra Gilman (Lisa Ann Walter), stage manager Melva LeBlanc (Sherri Shepard), and fussy food stylist B.D. Benson (Carrie Preston). Further yocks were generated by Emeril's domestic travails with his agent, Jerry McKenney (Robert Urich), and his funky teenaged son, James (James Laffety), who worked as an intern on the TV show. Lagasse's trademarked catch phrase "Bam!" was not unexpectedly hauled out at the slightest provocation, usually when the writing failed to come up to the usual standards of executive producers Harry Thomason and Linda Bloodworth-Thomason. Its scheduled September 18, 2001, debut date was postponed by news coverage of the World Trade Center tragedy, and Emeril finally emerged from the oven on September 25, 2001. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Made for and originally broadcast on the USA Cable Network, this soap-operatic tale of deceit, kidnapping and motherly love is set in a small town and centers on Ellie (Mary Page Keller) the wife of the burg's sheriff and her beloved adopted son Charlie (Michael Suchanek). Ellie's marriage to Jack (Jack Wagner) is quite troubled, due in part to his rather shabby treatment of Charlie. Ray (Ian Tracey), his girlfriend Sarah (Tracey Gold) and the rest of his gang make money robbing liquor stores until Sarah comes up with an even better plan: why not kidnap the sheriff's son and ask for $100,000 ransom. That is exactly what they do. Ellie is frantic and wants to call in the FBI, but Jack insists on handling the investigation himself. Determined to have Charlie back, no matter the cost, Ellie convinces her father, owner of the town bank, to put up the ransom. Unfortunately, she does not realize that Sarah, to whom Charlie bears more than a passing resemblance, has other plans. As those plans are enacted, Ellie finds herself learning some surprising and painfully dark secrets, leaving her to wonder just who the good and bad guys really are. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi

In particular, he learns that even his young son has an unsavory past--and that Weber may have to give up his child to strangers before long. Harry Anderson makes his second appearance in the role made famous in the 1960s by Fred MacMurray in The Absent-Minded Professor: Trading Places. While working on yet another "miracle" formula, Anderson is talked into briefly trading jobs with his ex-roomate Ed Begley Jr., a research computer. As usual, the professor gets in over his head, and before long he's chased around by all sorts of mysterious characters. The gimmick this time is a "mystery invention" disguised as a tennis ball.
