A murderous figure in a demonic mask stalks a woman from her dreams before materializing in the real world to do some bloody damage in director Rolfe Kanesky's nocturnal tale of night terror. Unsuccessful despite multiple attempts to conceive, Ellen (Blythe Metz) and her husband Bill (Luciano Szafir) order a mask said to represent the God of Fertility. Unfortunately their hope for a child is soon snuffed out when a demonic figure sporting the very same mask begins to pursue Ellen in her dreams. Increasingly disturbed by his wife's hysterical paranoia, Bill secures a room for his troubled wife at a nearby mental health facility. When Ellen and Bill's car breaks down in the woods en route to the hospital and the menacing figure from Ellen's nightmares emerges from the darkened trees, a retreat to a nearby cabin where Mia (Tiffany Shepis) is hosting a party with a collection of close friends sets the stage for a blood-soaked murder rampage that may or may not be the doing of a supernaturally-charged killer. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

As Walter begins to experiment with his new toy, he quickly discovers that female voice on the device has a strangely hypnotic affect on innocent bystanders. It's not long before Walter realizes that the strange frequency emitted by "the GeNiE" allows him to assume complete control over the actions of others. Of course what better place to start than by experimenting on your parents, your pushy older brother, and said sibling's sizzling hot college girlfriend. But small time games are only amusing for innocent kicks, and before long Walter is ready to share his new phone with the house-full of reality-show starlets who have just moved in next door to shoot a sexy series called "The Playpen." ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

This ultra-low-budget horror comedy, released directly to home video, distinguishes itself from its less amusing slasher kin by positioning tongue firmly in cheek and toying with the established conventions of the horror genre -- a device which would later be employed by Wes Craven in the 1996 blockbuster Scream, albeit with Hollywood financial muscle and big-name stars. The premise involves the usual group of obnoxious teens, who spend a weekend at an isolated mountain cabin despite local legends that a hideous monster is lurking in the surrounding woods. As the inevitable bloodbath begins, the group's only salvation comes from a zealous horror-movie buff, who attempts to teach the rapidly dwindling group the proper survival skills by describing the usual fatal errors committed by the average horror victim. Sadly, his directives are heeded too late, as more bad actors become fatally entwined in the seldom-seen monster's rubbery tentacles. Whether or not Craven or Scream writer Kevin Williamson had seen or heard of this film prior to their neo-slasher epic, the jokey excesses of this zero-budget exercise create the impression of a mere throwaway gag, instead of using macabre irony as the engine that drives the plot. ~ Cavett Binion, All Movie Guide
