A rivalry between two career criminals leads to a chase across two continents in this action thriller. A dispute between Jing and criminal overlord Chang (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa) leads Chang to swear vengeance by killing off the members of Jing's Tong faction. With nowhere to hide at home, Jing escapes to the United States posing as an Asian mail-order bride, but when Chang learns she's fled to America, he hires Dan (Michael Madsen), a ruthless bounty hunter whose need for a pay day outweighs his scruples. A Canadian-U.S. co-production filmed in 1998, Someone is Watching stars Stefanie Powers as Michelle Dupree, who, with her adopted son, Cory (Mickey Toft), is painfully attempting to pick up the pieces after the pair has been terrorized by an intruder in their home. Hoping to start life anew in a different town, Michelle learns to her chagrin that she cannot entirely escape the traumas of her past, especially when she begins receiving threatening phone calls. Meanwhile, Cory has "adjusted" to the situation by inventing an imaginary friend, a monster residing in his closet. Before long, people start dying horribly -- including Bobby Culley (Martin Neufeld), the disturbed youth whom Michelle has suspected of making those crank calls. Can the killer actually be Cory's mythical "friend" -- or is something even more sinister occurring. Intended for theatrical play, Someone is Watching ended up on Canadian cable television before making its US debut over the Lifetime cable channel on January 10, 2000. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

In Doug Jackson's Random Encounter, Elizabeth Berkley plays Alicia Brayman, a public relations executive on the rise. At a celebratory party, Alicia meets a handsome man named Kyle (Joel Wyner) who takes her home for sex. Madeleine (Mary Bradley), a crazed brunette with a knife, interrupts them. Alicia fatally bludgeons Madeline with a statue before she can stab Kyle. Kyle tells Alicia that he'll help her cover up the crime, but she is recognized during the getaway. As the heat is turned up and details start pouring out, Alicia learns that Kyle is a dangerous ex-con wanted for parole violations who set Madeleine up for murder and now has Alicia trapped in a web of deceit from which there seems to be no escape. ~ Robert Firsching, All Movie Guide

Someone is poisoning beautiful women and influential men with a very rare vintage of red wine while listening to classical music on WZIN-FM, 95.8 on the Philadelphia radio dial. Detectives Lou Heinz (Chris Heyerdahl) and Samantha Parks (Lynne Adams) discover the rather elegant murders occur during the nighttime shift of disc jockey Anne Winslow (Molly Ringwald), and that the killer may be leading up to slaying Anne herself. Heinz decides to protect Anne personally and follow her on her date with the creepy music professor Richard Poe (Chris Mulkey) -- good thing, too, because Poe winds up attempting date rape. Poe seems the likely suspect for the murders, but Heinz can't make the charges stick, and the killings continue. Don't look now, but Anne and Poe are reunited as moderators for a big benefit concert, which gives Poe a very tempting opportunity to see his obsession through to the end. In this low-budget thriller, which was released directly to video, Donald Sutherland stars as a Ted Robards, a small-time stockbroker who allows promising young Harvard alumnus Jeremy (William McNamara) to move into his home and help run his firm. While pretending to build up the business, Jeremy secretly dismantles it from within, all the while planning to wreak havoc of a more personal nature on Ted; his son Chris; and especially his pregnant new wife, Sandy (Lesley Ann Warren). Flashbacks reveal Jeremy's tortured upbringing and the killing streak it engendered. As things turn out, however, the pampered, beautiful Sandy has some devastating secrets of her own -- one of which may explain why her husband's protégé is out to get her. Natural Enemy also features Joe Pantoliano and Wayne's World starlet Tia Carrere. McNamara previously played another serial killer in 1995's Copycat. ~ Brian J. Dillard, All Movie Guide
