This ne'er-do-well chimp may not be the most qualified ape for the job, but a scheming senator (Tucci) has recruited him for a most dangerous mission. It seems that a powerful tyrant (Daniels) has overtaken an alien world, and now it's up to Ham III and his trusty simian crew (Hines and Patrick Warburton) to help overthrow the deep-space despot. A 21st century revival of a popular 20th century TV genre, the ABC miniseries Masters of Science Fiction was conceived as a six-episode anthology based on the works of an equal number of celebrated science-fiction writers. Focusing more on plot and character than special effects, the series utilized the sci-fi format to tackle a number of contemporary issues, ranging from homosexuality to global warning. Among the A-list guest stars appearing on the show were Anne Heche, Sam Waterston, Judy Davis, Brian Dennehy, John Hurt, and Malcolm McDowell; the directors included Mark Rydell, Michael Tolkin, and Jonathan Frakes. Unfortunately, it was obvious that ABC had little faith in the series; keeping it on the shelf for nearly a year, the network finally unveiled the show in a Saturday-night "death" slot on August 4, 2007. As a result, only four of the six completed episodes were telecast: "A Clean Escape, written by John Kessel; "The Awakening", by Howard Fast; "Jerry Was a Man", by Robert Heinlein; and "The Discarded", by Harlan Ellison (who pulled double duty as a supporting actor!). ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

In 1923, after acclaimed director Cecil B. de Mille completed the first version of his Biblical epic The Ten Commandments, an odd event occurred that generated a wealth of speculation and mystery: de Mille - having shot on multi-million dollar sets to rival nearly anything in prior movie history - promptly traveled to the sand dunes on the California coast and buried his sets there. For nearly a century, the reasons belying this odd series of actions remained clouded in obscurity. Now, with his documentary Sands of Oblivion, filmmaker David Flores finally uncovers the truth: De Mille, it seems, acquired the majority of artifacts for the film on actual Middle Eastern burial grounds. The items included an odd prayer bowl, allegedly cursed with the spirit of Im-La-Ra - the god of chaos and fear. Certainly few other explanations could account for the devastating experiences had by the workers on the film crew - experiences that included devastating maniacal visions, sudden insanity and loss of control that led to murder.
