Eurocentric arrogance prompts all the people who handle and acquire a strange Ceylonese curio to dismiss the legend surrounding it, which is that it is a death stone, and holding it presages an early demise. The first to discover it is Jane, who is the fiance of an architect. When she is killed in a run-in with some drug dealers, her fiancee goes on the rampage, dealing out plenty of lethal martial arts kicks and blows and setting up the villains for some serious revenge while the Ceylonese locals celebrate their colorful festivals. ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi

In this comedy, the rivalry between a trio of unlikely suitors becomes ever more frantic as they attempt to impress the woman of their dreams. German television perennial Thomas Gottschalk plays a handsome but otherwise ordinary guy. Television action star Helmut Fischer entertains as a quaintly Viennese gentleman, and American Michael Winslow (of Police Academy fame) is the third. Before long, they have become allies in their attempts to win the favor of an extremely picky woman. Filled with broad humor and zany moments, this comedy was very successful and spawned a sequel, Zartliche Chaoten 2. ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi

German comedian Rudi Carrell stars in this age old farce where men dress up in women's clothing. Cases of mistaken identity and sight gags highlight this uninspiring feature that does little to display the talents of the popular television comic. ~ Dan Pavlides, Rovi

A female reporter masquerades as a high school student to write a story on the youth of today. The students spend the majority of their time playing practical jokes on their peers and teachers. The reporter falls for Dr. Wagner, the idolized and idealistic educator who is the favorite of the student body and who, out of respect from the students, is usually exempt from their pranks. Other teacher types that nearly every high school student has encountered are accurately portrayed: there's the severe disciplinarian, the narcissist, the reactionary, and the one just hanging on hoping to retire with no further trouble before the pension goes into effect. At one point in the movie, the journalist/student is subjected to a mild spanking at the hands of her peers for a minor infraction, hence the title of this light comedy. ~ Dan Pavlides, Rovi

There's something positively monolithic about the title Massacre at Marble City. The film's status as a western is, however, given away by its alternate title, Conquerors of Arkansas. And its country of origin is revealed by its original title, Die Golsucher von Arkansas. Brad Harris and Horst Frank star in this German actioner, wherein all heroes and villains converge upon Marble City for a cathartic shoot-out. Until we saw production stills of Massacre at Marble City, we didn't know that the Alps were in Arkansas. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Curse of the Yellow Snake is a riproaring entry in Germany's series of low-budget films based on the works of Edgar Wallace. This time the filmmakers have borrowed a page from "Fu Manchu" creator Sax Rohmer, spinning a yarn about an Oriental cult's revolt against the white race. The names in the cast list are decidedly Teutonic, indicating that the "orientals" seen throughout are literally skin-deep. Heading the cast is Jochim Fuchsberger, a regular participant in the German Edgar Wallace series. Curse of the Yellow Snake establishes mood and tension early on, seldom letting up throughout its 98 minutes (much longer than usual for a Wallace film). ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
