Eleanor Gaver Movies
Eleanor Gaver wrote and directed this slapstick comedy-fantasy about graffiti-artist Jeff (Noah Taylor), who loves artist Mona (Fairuza Balk). After Mona produces a painting in which a church sculpture crushes a girl, she sees a church accident identical to her painting, although a stranger (Patrick Dempsey) intervenes. Mona takes a fickle fancy to this man and ends her relationship with Jeff, who enlists the help of Mona's boss (Tea Leoni) to mail himself to Mona in a box. When Mona tries to open the box, she impales Jeff with a pair of scissors, and the film then focuses on efforts to get rid of the body. Shown at the 1998 Hamptons Film Festival. ~ Bhob Stewart, All Movie Guide

In a mixed bag of themes and subplots, this weak comedy starts out with a group of teens in an amusement park, playing out their own social games against a garish backdrop. While these activities are being parodied on the one hand, director Eleanor Gaver introduces a story about nuclear waste from a nearby reactor that is seriously polluting the local water, and another vignette is about a beautician who is facing a dilemma: should she go for broke and stay with an impoverished jock, or should she go for the golden ring and hook up with a wealthy nerd? Even the many songs by country and rock singers cannot pull together these disparate pieces or pull off the intended humor.
