Cameron Mitchell's most flamboyantly silly role came as the horribly disfigured ex-makeup-artist Vincent Renard in this cult variation on the horror classic House of Wax. The vengeful Renard runs the Movieland Wax Museum, where he kidnaps actors, gives them paralyzing drugs, and dips them in wax for use as exhibits. John Cardos and Scott Brady from the Al Adamson movies are here as detectives, but it is Mitchell's crazed performance which gives this tatty feature its campy charm. The Cartwrights must carefully wend their way through Paiute territory, guarding two survivors of a recent massacre. One of the survivors, Josh Tanner (Steve Forrest), is an accused murderer. The other, Mary Burns (Tina Louise), knows that Josh is innocent, but can't-or won't-reveal this fact. This episode represented one of the first post-Gilligan's Island assignments for the toothsome Tina Louise. Juli Eng (Irene Tsu) travels from San Francisco to Hong Kong to claim the cache of precious diamonds left to her by her grandfather. Alas, the gems are missing, so Juli returns to America and asks Perry Mason (Raymond Burr) to help her track them down. In an uncharacteristic moment of distraction ("explained" by the episode's title), Saunders (Vic Morrow) is captured by the Germans. Subsequently rescued by the French Underground, Saunders is hidden in the posh apartment of Annette Touzet (Micheline Presle). Though worried that she'll be killed by the Nazis if Saunders is discovered, Annette also knows that if she refuses to hide him, she'll be executed by the Partisans because of her romantic involvement with a German officer. Producer Alex Chase (Jeff Morrow) hopes to persuade Broadway star Mona White (played by a young Ellen Burstyn, then billed as Ellen McRae) to headline his new musical by allowing her to preview the score. Instead, Mona angrily accuses Alex of stealing the music from her composer husband Damion White (David Hedison). The real song thief is two-bit tunesmith Phil Schuyler (James Forrest), who ends up electrocuted in his bathtub on Halloween night. Though Damion White was identified fleeing the scene of the crime, Perry Mason (Raymond Burr) intends to prove that White is innocent by pointing out the heavy traffic in costumed trick-or-treaters--any one of whom could have been the real murderer. In this high-seas adventure set in the 1600s, a British sea captain must go undercover, join a pirate band, and capture the notorious Captain Henry Morgan. But Morgan is on to the ruse and is well prepared when the sea captain makes his move. As the two engage in mortal combat, they are knocked unconscious and dragged to the governor of Tortuga who prepares to hang them both as pirates. Fortunately, a stowaway aboard the pirate vessel steps forward and reveals the hero's true identity and saves him. Morgan is not so lucky. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

In this 1961 William Castle film based on Ray Russell's novel Sardonicus, Guy Rolfe stars as the wicked Sardonicus, a wealthy count who wears a mask because his face is frozen in a horrifying death grimace. Ronald Lewis stars as Sir Robert Cargrave, a brilliant doctor who is at the top of his field in the early 20th century. A curious letter from his former love, Maude (Audrey Dalton), draws him to Europe where she lives in a remote castle with her brooding husband, his badly scarred, but dedicated man-servant, Krull (Oscar Homolka), and a frightened housekeeper whom Sir Robert finds tied up and covered with leeches. The good doctor soon discovers the truth behind the leeches...and the true nature of his visit when Sardonicus reveals his terrible story: He dug up his father's grave in search of a winning lottery ticket, and upon seeing the corpse, his face muscles froze leaving him looking like a living skull. Dangling Maude as his ransom, Sardonicus forces Sir Robert into attempting a radical treatment to make his face normal again, but even when it is a success, the evil Sardonicus can find no cure from the curse of his father's desecrated corpse.
