With a cast sure to please cult and horror fans alike, this pseudo-women's-prison film from director Hikmet Avedis is a good bet for genre followers. Pretty Dianne Hull plays Kelly McIntire, a disco bartender who is poisoned as part of a botched murder scheme and sent to a mental hospital. Once there, she is raped by evil orderly Carl (Bo Hopkins), witnesses murders and suicides, and eventually escapes only to be dragged screaming back to the horrors of the fifth floor. Cathey Paine, who played Leslie Van Houten in Helter Skelter, is among the many familiar faces, which also include such horror icons as Robert Englund and Michael Berryman. But the film belongs to Bo Hopkins, who is all smiling menace and who turns in a scary performance and gives the film what force it has, as screenwriter Meyer Dolinsky puts Hull through some rather unconvincing maneuvers in the lead. Still, although there are a number of lapses in logic, they don't detract from the frightening premise that almost any statement or action could be construed as a sign of dementia in the proper circumstances. ~ Robert Firsching, All Movie Guide

Death Flight was originally known as SST: Death Flight when it was first telecast February 25, 1977. Though fairly expensive so far as TV movies go, the film is brought down to earth by its standard B-flick plot. On its maiden flight, America's first supersonic transport runs into deadly danger high in the sky-and may never get to land. In true Airport fashion, the plane is populated with celebrities (at least by TV standards): Barbara Anderson, Bert Convy, Peter Graves, Lorne Greene, Tina Louise, George Maharis, Burgess Meredith, Doug McClure, Martin Milner, Robert Reed, Susan Strasberg, Billy Crystal, and even Regis Philbin. The film's working title was Death of the Maiden, but this was too close to Death and the Maiden, the 90-minute pilot episode of the 1973 Jimmy Stewart TV series Hawkins. When their driver is killed, Joe Cartwright and several other stagecoach passengers are stranded in the desert, 50 miles from the nearest town. The little party is forced to rely upon ill-tempered, violent fur trapper Howard Benson (Kelly Thordsen) for survival. Exacerbating an already tense situation is the fact that the other passengers hold Joe responsible for the death of the driver. A beautiful and young-looking educator begins working in a small desert town. She arrives early to set up, and just before school starts she meets a handsome young local. He falls for her and they begin a nice affair. Unfortunately, as school begins, she realizes that he is a student. The drama comes in when she tries to do the right thing and he refuses to end the relationship. Hot rodder Richard Hartunian storms off after a spat with girlfriend Leigh Snowden. Shortly afterward, the car in which Leigh is driving is involved in a crack-up, injuring her and killing the driver. Since the car had been run off the road by a reckless driver, Hartunian is the Number One Suspect. Only on the eve of the Big Race is our hero exonerated. Also appearing in Hot Rod Rumble are Brett Halsey (future star of the immortal Speed Crazy), Wright King (late of Johnny Jupiter), and stand-up comic Joey Forman.
