Richard Dembo's third directorial effort, La Maison De Nina, concerns a group of Jewish children living in an orphanage in Paris at the end of WWII. Soon there is an influx of children at the orphanage whose parents did not survive the concentration camps. Eventually those newcomers and the orphans who already lived there are feuding over the importance of their Jewish heritage. The children must deal with their grief in a variety of ways including religion, music, and one poor child by deciding to not talk. Based on an award-winning play by Jean-Noel Fenwick, this fact-based drama offers a lively account of the lives and professional struggles of Noble prize-winning research scientists Pierre and Marie Curie. The two meet at the Paris School of Physics & Chemistry in a frosty laboratory. There Pierre (Charles Berling) and fellow researcher Gustave Bemont (Christian Charmetant) are busy with their work when the brash Marie Sklodowska bursts in to join them. She has been assigned there at the request of the school director Rodolphe Schutz (Phillipe Noiret), a man determined to have his school win the coveted Science Academy palmes, the highest honor in the French scientific community. Though she apparently speaks no French, Sklodowska proves her brilliance from the start. When not busy in the lab, Sklodowska and Pierre are busy in the boudoir indulging in another kind of experimentation that leads to love and ultimately marriage. This complicates matters for it is not easy to juggle the rigors of science, antagonistic colleagues, national pride and the demands of a family. Science aficionados in the audience may get a tickle from the cameo appearances by two Nobel laureate physicists, Pierre-Gilles de Gennes and Georges Charpak who show up as delivery men coming to unload a huge truckload of radium-bearing rocks. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

As directed by Richard Dembo, the period adventure drama L'Instinct de l'ange (Angel's Wing) unfurls in early 20th century France, where Henry, a wealthy young Frenchman from an aristocratic family, undergoes an extensive cure for tuberculosis at a sanitarium and gets released soon afterward. He longs to join the French flying corps of the Great War - then raging across Europe - but is promptly rejected given the checkered history of his health. Never one to swallow such rejections, Henry - who learned to fly years earlier of his own accord - promptly joins a local fighting squadron and racks up a litany of air victories, which piques the suspicion of his military colleagues. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide

Michel Piccoli plays Akiva Liebskind, a Russian chess genius in the Swiss-filmed Dangerous Moves. He is pitted against Soviet exile Pavius Fromm (Alexandre Arbatt), who, since childhood, has dreamed of nothing but defeating Liebskind. Both men soon become obsessed with winning. Already suffering from a weak heart, Liebskind courts a coronary, while the increasingly paranoid Fromm is convinced that his opponent is spying on him from every corner. The KGB enters into the game by attempting to sabotage Fromm, hoping that by doing so they will discredit everyone who's ever publicly opposed the Soviet government.
