Ellis (Duncan Fraser), a literature professor, has started a relationship with Fee (Elizabeth Dancoes), one of his students, displaying a serious lack of judgement. However, his judgement is not in question when he goes to meet his girl's parents. Why she invited him to see her parents (Roberta Maxwell and Christopher Plummer) scream and yell at one another, displaying for all to see the bonds of hatred they share, remains a mystery. The new couple, baptised by this conflagration, now proceed to spend the rest of their weekend with Daniel Kingsgate (Alan Scarfe), a famous writer. This time, not only is there shouting and screaming, but the writer tries to put the make on Ellis' new girlfriend while he is busy trying to console the writer's wife (Barbara March). ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi

This parody by Jack Darcus sends up the Canadian film industry. Among the protagonists is Vladimir (Alan Scarfe), an exiled Czech filmmaker who arrives in Canada to shoot a most disrespectable porno film after winning an award at Cannes. But Vladimir's halcyon days of glory are all in the past, and the producer he gets for his skin flick went over the hill several miles ago. Nevertheless, the production continues with all the attendant problems any low-budget effort will encounter, even the potentially menacing visit of a Hollywood talent scout. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi

In this interesting drama set in the 1960s at the height of the Vietnam War, a tough drill sergeant looking for two of his AWOL enlisted men tracks them to the home of an unhappy, manipulative Vancouver couple. Sergeant Ulysses Hawley (Alan Scarfe) is looking for Peter (Jon Bryden) and his companion who have humiliated him in front of an officer. Noel (Dermot Hennelly) has allowed the runaways to stay in his home, while he and Val (Barbara March) use them as examples of courageous rebellion against the Vietnam War. The Sergeant's Gunga Din personality has the effect of making other men remember to be macho in his presence -- an attitude the runaway Peter has never really known. When he comes on the scene, the Sergeant easily takes charge -- and the deserters will be hard-put to evade capture. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi

This Canadian seriocomedy stars Vladimir Valenta as a man going through midlife crisis. He begins spending his evenings at the local zoo, where he stands hours on end observing the wolves. Native American Lawrence Brown shares Valenta's fascination, and together these would-be rugged individualists devise a plan to free the wolves. Unfortunately, the wolves themselves are not as enamored with the Great Outdoors as Valenta and Brown; the contented beasts refuse to leave their cage. Valenta follows suit, resigning himself to the "cage" of his humdrum life. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
