Having been burned by a traumatic childhood experience, greedy toy tycoon Tyler Madison (Harry Hamlin) is contemptuous of his fellow man, ruthlessly nasty in his business dealings, and callously neglectful of his wife Elyse (Megan Gallegher) and son Danny (Curtis Blanck). Just before Christmas, Madison piles into his private plane and heads for the North Pole, determined to put his chief competitor, Santa Claus (William Hookins), out of business. But upon his arrival, he realizes that he and S.C. have a lot in common--and thus the inevitable epiphany occurs, culminating in the settling of an "Elf strike" and a closer bond between Tyler and his loved ones. Like Father, Like Santa was telecast by cable's Fox Family Channel on December 1, 1998. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

This slapstick parody of space movies chronicles the riotous exploits of a group of dim-bulbed, misguided aliens under the mistaken impression that they are supposed to invade the Earth after they hear a rebroadcast of Orson Welles' notorious "War of the Worlds" one Halloween night. Thinking they are late, they rush in with their ramshackle spaceship and end up in Big Bean, Illinois, a peaceful midwestern town. Naturally after they announce they want to kill the "Earth scum," the residents want to kill them. Fortunately, the town sheriff and his daughter try to keep the moronic Martians safe and help their captain get them safely back in space. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

Set in a fictional area in Northern Italy during World War I, this story spins around Marcello (Jimmy Briscoe), a man blessed with the wealth of his landowner parents, but cursed with a "deformity" he cannot alter -- he is a dwarf. His family is ashamed and keeps him secluded, and their feelings pretty much exacerbate Marcello's loneliness. The unfortunate man is even resented by maimed soldiers returning from the front lines because he is exempt from military service. As though life were not already difficult, Marcello falls in love with María (Nathalie Nell) a prostitute, not knowing that she has a boyfriend, Cesare (Antonio Marsina) who plans on robbing and then killing him. Cesare is supposedly Marcello's good friend. María predicts Marcello's danger while doing a reading of her tarot cards, and in the end, she is able to save his life -- though at a cost to her own well-being that did not seem to have been in the cards. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

Hoping for a romantic rendezvous with her new boyfriend Mitch (Philip R. Allen), Alice (Linda Lavin) is instead saddled with the responsibility of escorting Mitch's four kids as they go trick-or-treating on Halloween. The situation turns out to be more trick than treat when one of the youngsters disappears. Featured amongst the supporting cast is child actor Billy Jacoby, who under the name of Billy Jayne later appeared as Mikey Randall on Parker Lewis Can't Lose. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Lenny (Michael McKean) and Squiggy (David L. Lander) have launched the latest in a long line of questionable business ventures--namely, a computer dating service. The boys' first customers are (who else?) Laverne (Penny Marshall) and Shirley (Cindy Williams), who agree to pay a small fee in order to be fixed up with a couple of dates. Turns out that the dates (Tommy Madden, Jimmy Briscoe) are on the "small" side as well; in fact, they're both midgets! This is the episode that ends with a riotous roller-skating sequence. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
