Master chef Emeril Lagasse, the garrulous star of one of cable TV's most popular cooking shows, played "himself" in this eponymously titled NBC sitcom. The story lines revolved around the behind-the-scenes intrigues attending Emeril's weekly TV series and his clashes with his virtually all-female production staff: producer Cassandra Gilman (Lisa Ann Walter), stage manager Melva LeBlanc (Sherri Shepard), and fussy food stylist B.D. Benson (Carrie Preston). Further yocks were generated by Emeril's domestic travails with his agent, Jerry McKenney (Robert Urich), and his funky teenaged son, James (James Laffety), who worked as an intern on the TV show. Lagasse's trademarked catch phrase "Bam!" was not unexpectedly hauled out at the slightest provocation, usually when the writing failed to come up to the usual standards of executive producers Harry Thomason and Linda Bloodworth-Thomason. Its scheduled September 18, 2001, debut date was postponed by news coverage of the World Trade Center tragedy, and Emeril finally emerged from the oven on September 25, 2001. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

It now appears that the separation between Niles (David Hyde Pierce) and his wife Maris has reached the permanent stage. This doesn't prevent Niles from still holding out the faint hope that Maris will return. It also prevents Niles from asking Frasier (Kelsey Grammer) point-blank whether or not he should press for a reconciliation -- forcing Frasier to do some very, very deep thinking over the next several days. As usual, the role of Maris is unfilled, and the character remains an invisible but very powerful force. ~ All Movie Guide

It's "J.D. Salinger" all over again when Frasier (Kelsey Grammer) and Niles (David Hyde Pierce) spot T.H. Houghton (Robert Prosky), a famous -- and famously reclusive -- author who published one best-selling classic before completely disappearing from view. Alas, once spotted, Houghton vanishes again, sending the Crane brothers on a frantic search to relocate their literary idol. As it turns out, however, it is another Crane -- Martin (John Mahoney) by name -- who stumbles upon the elusive Houghton by accident. ~ All Movie Guide

Dan and Vanessa have met one another through a dating service, and initially their romance has the benefit of their being almost totally opposite kinds of people. Vanessa is an inveterate do-gooder and architect with a very methodical bent. Dan, who runs a magic store by day, is attempting to break into stand-up comedy by night. When Vanessa calls the relationship off, Dan, thinking perhaps that it may be because he wasn't sufficiently attentive or didn't let her know how much she meant to him, showers her with letters, messages on her answering machine, and impromptu visits to her workplace and home. In return, she alleges sexual harassment, and their disagreements become fodder for a courtroom drama in which the views of each side are exhaustively but somewhat inconclusively aired. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide

Although written and directed by the well-known Roger Vadim (And God Created Woman), this movie about life and love among a group of high schoolers on vacation in the countryside has nothing to distinguish it beyond the typical couplings and uncouplings found in other movies in the same genre. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

Margot Kidder and Annie Potts star in this distaff buddy picture concerning two friends undergoing a series of misadventures in their love lives. Potts plays Bonnie Howard, the wife of Stanley (Robert Carradine), an immature child/man who irresponsibly spends most of his time racing cars and getting drunk. Bonnie also happens to be pregnant, but the father of her unborn child does not happen to be Stanley. Rather than hit Stanley in the face with that fact, she decides to leave him. As she heads for town to obtain an abortion, she runs into the foul-mouthed man-hunter Rita Harris (Margot Kidder in a blonde wig and tight pants). The two characters get involved in a number of vignettes, with the humor arising from the contrast between the streetwise Rita and the relatively innocent Bonnie. ~ Paul Brenner, All Movie Guide
