In this twisted black comedy, blackmailer Billy has chosen the son-in-law of a prominent business man to become his meal-ticket -- but first he must lure Arthur into his trap. For some time, Billy has known that Arthur has had a thing for Billy's lover Jessica. Lately Billy and Jessica have had troubles in the boudoir, and no matter how many games they play or fantasies they enact, Bill just can't seem to get sufficiently aroused. One night he decides to go out rather than spend another futile night entertaining Jessica. She ends up inviting Arthur over for some fun. As soon as he arrives she is at him like a pitbull on a pot roast. She has just finished ripping his clothing off when Billy steps in and shoots an incriminating Polaroid. While the embarrassed Arthur apologizes, Billy ties him up and then demands a large sum of money in exchange for silence. To ensure he gets it, Billy decides to leave Arthur tied up for the entire weekend. Suddenly, Billy finds himself terribly excited by his captive audience and proceeds to make frequent and vigorous love to Jessica while poor Arthur looks on. The two are rather inept lovers and Arthur is somewhat disgusted. In the end, the story takes a darker turn and mayhem ensues. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

"I'm gonna dance," Nomi Malone (Elizabeth Berkley) insists in the opening scene of Showgirls, and dance she does. In this quasi-update of All About Eve, Nomi is a drifter whose sole ambition is to headline the "Goddess" topless dance show at the Stardust in Las Vegas. Of course, even Nomi must pay her dues, and she does so at the Cheetah, grinding poles and lap dancing her way to a future. Fortunately, her roommate, Molly, works at the Stardust and invites Nomi to see the show, where she meets Crystal Conners (Gina Gershon, in the Bette Davis role), with whom she immediately forms a love/hate relationship. Nomi soon learns what she must do to get ahead, and the rest of the film documents her cat-like crawl up the showgirl ladder of success. Directed by Paul Verhoeven, (Robocop, Basic Instinct, The Fourth Man), Showgirls was conceived as the first big-budget "adult" film since 1977's Caligula, and the first such production to wear the NC-17 rating; its failure at the box-office discouraged further attempts at large-scale adult productions. ~ Dylan Wilcox, All Movie Guide

This British family film follows the exploits of two white greenhorns lost in the African wilderness with only a 100 year old elephant to protect them. It was filmed on location in Kenya, Botswana, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe. Michael, a teenager from the States, and Elisabeth, an English woman whom Michael has spent 10 days romantically pursing are part of an international tour group. Black poachers hijack the group and take Michael, Elisabeth, and an older Englishman, Charles hostage. As the three attempt their escape a tribal chieftain is killed. The chieftain's son, Rabar, begins to trail the threesome to exact his revenge. When Charles is killed by a lion, the two young folks are left to battle the African wilderness alone. A romance ensues. For some reason, a mighty elephant befriends them and always appears at the moments of greatest danger. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

This science fiction thriller was inspired by a mythical real-life event, the WWII era disappearance of an entire naval vessel during a radar-cloaking test. In 1943, David Herdeg Michael Pare and Jim Parker Bobby DiCicco are sailors stationed aboard a Virginia battleship. Their vessel is undergoing an experiment conducted by brilliant scientist Dr. Longstreeet (Eric Christmas), who is attempting to render Allied craft invisible to radar. The ship becomes briefly invisible, but the test is a disaster and most of the crew are horribly killed. However, two crewmen are missing. In 1984, Herdeg and Parker emerge in the Nevada desert, having somehow traveled through time. Longstreet, still trying to perfect the device after 40 years, is running another experiment that pulls the missing sailors into the present. Realizing what's occurred, Herdeg and Parker flee, fearing for their lives. Fugitives, they befriend a skeptical modern woman, Alison Hayes (Nancy Allen). An effect of time pulls Parker back into 1943, leading to a bizarre reunion between Herdeg, still trapped in the future, and Parker, now a senior citizen. The film was followed by a sequel nine years later. ~ Karl Williams, All Movie Guide
