Chesare is the only man who holds power over L.A.'s most notorious street gangs, and to wield his might he devises a deadly series of games in which rival gang members will fight until only one is left standing. His reign is quickly coming to an end though, and when Aurelo and Paulo propose that the brutal battles be fought not to the death but to first blood instead, Chesare finally summons the courage to step into the ring and do battle with the one foe that could truly bring about is downfall. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

In this cautionary tale, based on a novel by Luis Spota, the travails of four "wetbacks" are told. These men have left their homes throughout Mexico in order to sell their labor north of the Border in the U.S. Along the way, one dies while crossing the Rio Grande, another is deported, a third is killed, and the remaining one suffers horribly while working in the U.S. Indeed, such illegal Mexican immigrants are routinely abused and roughed-up, in addition to being poorly paid for back-breaking labor. However, in this movie at least, the lead characters are not particularly admirable people, as they are prepared to rob the only person who shows them kindness. This is clearly a movie with one simple, overriding theme for its intended viewers: no matter what, stay at home in Mexico. ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi

This drama revolves around a star-crossed romance between two very unlikely people. Gabriela (Maribel Guardia, a former Miss Costa Rica) is a considerably beautiful young woman from a wealthy family who was educated in the United States and therefore speaks the language of high finance and everything that has "cachet." Ulises (Valentin Trujillo), whose mother washes clothes for a living, never completed his high school education. When Gabriela and Ulises meet and fall in love, her family is understandably less than enthusiastic about Ulises, so he is determined to change their opinion of him.
