Director Alfonso Brescia, best known as "Al Bradly," made mediocre thrillers for over 25 years, but this is among his more watchable efforts. Taking ideas from both Klute and Body Double (which was released in Italy as Murder in a Red Light), the film deals with a model named Starlet (Florence Guerin), who leads a double life. At night, Starlet becomes Sherry, a Times Square prostitute, in order to search for her brother's killer. Her brother was a Marine who had been involved in a game of hot potato with a live hand-grenade on a boat returning from Lebanon. The game had ended tragically when the grenade went off, killing three men and injuring six others, castrating one of them. Now someone is stalking New York and stabbing ex-Marines to death, leaving fake hand-grenades between their legs after castrating them. Hard-boiled policeman Flanigan (David Hess) thinks Starlet is putting herself in too much danger, so he intentionally exposes her double identity, then poses as her to catch the real killer. The major clue is a musical cigarette lighter which plays "Greensleeves," and there are a number of red herrings and a twist involving a homosexual affair, but the real killer is obvious within 10 minutes. Still, any film that involves Florence Guerin nude and David Hess in drag is worth seeing for curiosity value alone. ~ Robert Firsching, Rovi

Sirpa Lane, star of the notorious art-house porno The Beast, returns to star in this unofficial sci-fi sequel produced five years after the original and featuring the triumphant return of the lusty, well-endowed man-beast. The story gets under way as Captain Larry (Vassili Karis) stops off at a local watering hole for a cool glass of Uranus Milk. After striking up a conversation with stunning blonde Sondra (Lane), Captain Larry is confronted by an angry merchant named Juan who had been attempting to work his charm on the girl. A barroom brawl ensues, and after Captain Larry defeats Juan he swipes a vial from him and takes Sondra home. The next day, Captain Larry receives word that the vial contained a highly valuable space mineral. The Star Fleet wants Captain Larry to travel to the planet where the mineral was found and bring back more, and they've assembled a skilled crew to accompany him on the mission. Sondra is a member of Captain Larry's crew, but she's distracted from her mission by recurring dreams where she's wandering through the woods and ravaged by a hirsute stranger. Upon arriving on the planet, Captain Larry discovers that it is ruled by an enormous robot that possesses the only known traces of the prized space mineral. Now, in order to accomplish his mission, Captain Larry and his crew will be forced to do battle with a powerful race of aliens that will fight to the death to protect their precious natural resource. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Mario Merola stars in the title role as Big Mamma, a Neapolitan gangster with a heart of gold who earns his illicit keep by smuggling cigarettes across borders. The everyday injustices visited upon "little people" get his dander up, and he exerts his considerable influence to help them out. In this melodramatic crime thriller, based in part on a Neapolitan musical form popular in the 1920s (the scenegiatta), Big Mamma shows not only his good side: when an enemy's attacks hit too close to home, resulting in the death of his daughter, his dark, vengeful side comes to the fore ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi

One of several low-budget science fiction entries cranked out in the wake of Star Wars by Italian director Alfonso Brescia (here under the pseudonym Al Bradley), this silly film takes place on Earth (now renamed "Sol 3") in the year 2312. The planet is sold to an evil despot named Kress, and it is up to the kindly Professor Maury and his ragtag band of human and robot friends to reclaim the planet from Kress and his cyborg army. Familiar faces include Gianni Garko, Malisa Longo, and Chris Avram, veterans of numerous European thrillers. ~ Robert Firsching, Rovi

In this softcore Italian sex film, Sonia Viviani plays Serenella, the niece of a married couple, who attempts to cause a divorce by spreading gossip about their promiscuous sex lives. She's miffed because the Sicilian husband Vito (Tuccio Masumeci) only got married for his wife's money, and they both sleep around. Director Alfonso Brescia (aka Al Bradly) is better known for his Westerns, awful science-fiction films, and a few giallo thrillers like Omicidio a Luci Blu. Daniela Giordano is the main reason to watch this film, along with exploitation veterans Dagmar Lassander, Malisa Longo, Aldo Giuffre, and Giacomo Furia. ~ Robert Firsching, Rovi

Don't look for Moe, Larry and Curly (nor even Shemp or Joe Besser) in The Italian-Chinese The Three Stooges vs. the Wonder Woman. The terrible trio in this film is played by Yueh Hua, Nick Jordan and Mark Hannibal. These "stooges" are slapstick-prone warriors who do battle against an Amazonian high priestess (May May Wong) and her buxom followers. Not only is the title misleading, but so are the production credits: the "Al Bradley" listed as director is really Alfonso Brescia. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

According to the history books, the female Amazon warriors of Asia Minor often chopped off their breasts, the better to accommodate their bow-and-arrow weaponry. Rest assured that the anonymous Spanish and Italian starlets in Battle of the Amazons are in full possession of their principal attributes. Lucretia Love plays the Amazon queen, who assembles her forces when the bad guys invade their land. Love is aided in battle by the neighboring male farmers, led by the athletic Lincoln Tate. The direction of Battle of the Amazons was credited to Al Bradley, but this was a pseudonym for Alfonso Brescia. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Hell in Normandy is a mosaic of stock footage, haphazardly staged action sequences and subpar English-language dubbing. The film is set during World War II in the days just prior to the D-Day invasion. A special parachute unit is sent out to destroy a German flame thrower installation on Omaha Beach. Heading the operation are Peter Lee Lawrence and TV's onetime "Wild Bill Hickok", Guy Madison. The color photography in Hell in Normandy elevates its entertainment value ever so slightly. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
