A soldier must confront the past to save the future in this sci-fi adventure. In the year 2128, the Earth has become a battleground, where the forces of fascist leader Gen. Tunis (Thomas Kretschmann) have been beaten into submission. However, the victory of the anti-fascist Alliance has come at the expense of much of the planet, which has been laid to waste by Tunis's forces. Refusing to surrender, Tunis instead finds a way to travel back in time to the late 1990s, where he formulates a plan to alter history to his advantage -- and put the fate of the world in jeopardy. However, Lt. Anthony Rand (David Bradley), an Alliance soldier who fights bravely but by his own rules, gets wind of Tunis's scheme; with the help of a group of condemned prisoners, Rand follows Tunis back in time in a desperate effort to save mankind's future. Total Reality also features Ely Pouget, Bill Shaw, and Robert Blanche. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

The topic of this comedy-drama, originally made for British television, is date rape and it is presented from both the alleged victim's and the attacker's viewpoints. The trouble begins when a lusty med-school student agrees to go out on a date with a young woman who has a big crush upon him. As the date progresses, their conversation is intercut with snippets from their inner thoughts. She has her doubts about sleeping with him and opts for friendship, while he is primarily interested in getting a little action. But as time passes, the girl becomes unsure and sends him decidedly mixed messages. The next morning, the girl claims she was raped and starts prosecution proceedings. Both the plaintiff and the defendant give the jury different explanations of the circumstances and it is only after a verdict is reached that the truth about the evening is shown. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi

Burly British actor John Rhys-Davies forsakes the good-guy motions he'd gone through in Raiders of the Lost Ark and TV's The Untouchables to play the villain in 1993's Cyborg Cop. If you've guessed that this is Robocop redux, you're on the money. The title character has been converted from man to machine on a remote Caribbean island. Unfortunately, Cyborg Cop is as evil as his mentor (Rhys-Davies), so it's up to the mechanical man's DEA-agent brother to straighten him out. Lovely scenery, some exciting scenes, lots of grade-A ham from the redoubtable Rhys-Davies. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Lower Level is a glossy, but uneven thriller in which a wealthy, unhappy woman becomes the obsession of a security guard who reads her secret journals and becomes obsessed with her sexual fantasies. Hilary (Elizabeth Gracen) is an architect who has a lover who will not commit to her and she pours out her frustrations into her diary where she begs for her dream lover to rescue her. Craig (Jeff Yager) reads the diaries and takes her fantasies literally as he decides to become the man of Hilary's dreams. Director Peterson gets bogged down by several plot cliches and a highly unsatisfactory ending. Despite these flaws, Lower Level has many interesting moments and is worth a view. ~ Linda Rasmussen, Rovi

This unadorned biography of playwright Joe Orton (Gary Oldman) charts his bawdy, dangerous relationships. Alfred Molina plays Orton's brutish lover, Kenneth Halliwell, a pathetic figure who becomes horrific and then tragic before the film is over. The hilarity of scenes from such Orton plays as Loot and What the Butler Saw is evenly balanced by the bleakness of the playwright's tormented (and tormenting) off-stage existence, which ended suddenly at age 34 with half a dozen blows to the head from a hammer. Prick Up Your Ears is based on the book by theater critic John Lahr, who is played in the film by Wallace Shawn. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
