Greg MacGillivray's documentary Greece: Secrets of the Past marks the latest addition to the tidal wave of IMAX features now available on widescreen DVD (including The Rolling Stones: Live at the Max, Shackleton's Antarctic Adventure, IMAX Space Station, and many others). This forty-minute travelogue unlocks the complexity and majesty of Ancient Greece, via a breathtaking visual exploration of the Greek isles, replete with gorgeous aerial cinematography. The program then tours the relics of antiquity that still linger on the Grecian landscape, including the ruins of the Parthenon and other architectural remnants, while narration on the soundtrack (by My Big Fat Greek Wedding's Nia Vardalos) expostulates on the land's contributions to democratic ideals, science, sculpture, and western politics. As an added bonus, broadly-scaled CGI visuals recreate the Santorini eruption. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide

A calculatedly quirky dramedy series in the tradition of Northern Exposure and Gilmore Girls, the weekly, 60-minute Three Moons Over Milford was set in the titular small Vermont town, "Home of the World-Famous Rest-O-Lounger." The series chronicled the reactions of the populace when a comet slammed into the moon, breaking the satellite into three pieces. Did this phenomenon signal the end of the world, or the beginning of a new one? Either way, the folks in Milford figured that time was running out quickly (just how quickly nobody could say), so they elected to "live for the moment," dropping diets and exercise regimens, shedding inhibitions, and indulging their every whims -- an epidemic described by one character as "tri-lunar fever." Elizabeth McGovern headed the cast as Laura Davis, a new arrival in Milford, whose husband, Carl, a CEO of the vast and powerful Syndek corporation, had mysteriously vanished just after the breakup of the moon -- suggesting that, somehow, Syndek had had something to do with the lunar disaster. Now Laura was saddled with the responsibility of raising her two children alone, said children being self-styled Wiccan and inadvertent firestarter Lydia (Teresa Celentano) and her computer-whiz son, Alex (Sam Murphy). Other principals included Milford's leading citizen, Michelle Graybar (Nora Dunn), who evidently had the lowdown on everyone in town and whose real-estate business was booming despite the imminent Apocalypse; attorney Mack McIntyre (Rob Boltin), the town's resident general handyman, most eligible bachelor, and sage philosopher, and Claire Ling (Samantha Leigh Quan), a "mystery woman" with whom the much-younger Alex was having an affair. Originally slated to debut in late 2005, Three Moons Over Milford did not peek out over the horizon until August 6, 2006, running for eight extremely eccentric episodes on cable's ABC Family network. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Director Alan J. Pakula does the best anyone can with this complicated tale of what happens when the dream state and the waking state are confused and intermingled. While at home alone one day, Kathy Gardner (Kristy McNichol) defends herself against an intruder by stabbing him in the back. Now when she tries to sleep she keeps on having nightmares about the incident. Enter Michael Hansen (Ben Masters) a dream researcher who postulates that the actions in a dream state can be channeled into real but controlled actions. These real actions then harmlessly release tension or anger or whatever is at issue. The problem is that his research is not thoroughly tested, and Kathy may not be the best subject to use as a guinea pig. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

Conspiracy film specialist Alan J. Pakula turned journalists Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein's best-selling account of their Watergate investigation into one of the hit films of Bicentennial year 1976. While researching a story about a botched 1972 burglary of Democratic Party headquarters at the Watergate apartment complex, green Washington Post reporters/rivals Woodward (Robert Redford, who also exec produced) and Bernstein (Dustin Hoffman) stumble on a possible connection between the burglars and a White House staffer. With the circumspect approval of executive editor Ben Bradlee (Jason Robards), the pair digs deeper. Aided by a guilt-ridden turncoat bookkeeper (Jane Alexander) and the vital if cryptic guidance of Woodward's mystery source, Deep Throat (Hal Holbrook), Woodward and Bernstein "follow the money" all the way to the top of the Nixon administration. Despite Deep Throat's warnings that their lives are in danger, and the reluctance of older Post editors, Woodward and Bernstein are determined to get out the story of the crime and its presidential cover-up. Once Bradlee is convinced, the final teletype impassively taps out the historically explosive results. ~ Lucia Bozzola, All Movie Guide
