In this entertaining feature for the 3- to10-year-old set, the wicked witch Hydia (voice of Cloris Leachman) and her two nasty daughters, Reeka and Draggle (voices of Rhea Pearlman and Madeline Kahn) are scheming to flood Ponyland with a strange liquid called Smooze. The ponies find allies in the Grundles, who have already been made homeless by the Smooze. The challenge is to stop the witch and her daughters, send them back into their volcano, and retrieve the lost land of the Grundles from under its cover of Smooze -- not to mention protecting Ponyland from the worst. Not an easy agenda, even after several adventures gear everyone up for the grand finale. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

In part two of the inaugural Transformers adventure "More Than Meets the Eye," the Autobots rescue Earthlings Spike and Sparkplug from the Decepticon, whereupon the two humans join the cause of the "good" Transformers. Meanwhile, the Decepticons endeavor to gut Earth of its resources in order to create precious energon cubes, which will enable the villains to take over not only Cybertron but the rest of the Universe. Things take a potentially disastrous turn when Optimus Prime is seriously injured while again attempting to save the humans. Written by George Arthur Bloom, part two of "More Than Meets the Eye" first aired in America on September 18, 1984. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Transformers began its original syndicated run on September 17, 1984, with the three-part "origins" episode, "More Than Meets the Eye." In part one, the two warring Transformer armies, the Autobots and the Decepticons, crash-land on a prehistoric Earth. Four million years later in 2005 A.D., they are reactivated by a volcano. Resuming their centuries-long battle as if nothing had happened, both armies square off at an oil rig manned by earthlings Spike and Sparkplug. "More Than Meets the Eye" was written by George Arthur Bloom. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
Even animal lovers may balk at this light, light drama about how a missionary (Genevieve Bujold) and Bobby (Rick Schroder), a young boy manage to populate a deserving island with critters of all types. Noah Dugan (Elliott Gould) is a pilot in need of escaping his creditors and he agrees to fly the animals to their destination. Bobby and the missionary sneak on board and the plane crash-lands on another island on which two Japanese soldiers are still fighting World War II. The story veers ever more into fantasy as the Japanese and the pilot join together to make a boat out of the plane with the goal of taking every animal with them into uncharted waters. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide
