Twenty years after the brutal slaying of five students at an abandoned resort hotel, a group of fearless students return to the site of the original crime only to discover that the murderer is still on the loose and waiting to strike again. The year was 1984: A group of five students broke into the Royal Crescent Hotel as part of a local rite of passage. Days later, their bodies were found mutilated. The killer was believed to be a local drifter, though no one was ever caught or convicted of the murders. At the time, the press made no mention of the fact that the bereaved parents insisted that the police hire a psychic to locate the murderer, and that after handing one of the student's personal objects the clairvoyant claimed to have seen the killer's face. Though the psychic had claimed that the killer was still inside the hotel, a comprehensive sweep of every floor yielded to clues to his whereabouts. Later that same night, the psychic died in her sleep, effectively rendering the case cold. Flash forward twenty years later, and another group of students conducting a so-called "Tour of Fear" break into the hotel on a mission to visit each of the five rooms where the high schoolers had been slain. Upon discovering a severed hand in one of the rooms, the students unleash a terrifying force that has haunted the hotel grounds for nearly a century. Now, if they can only solve the mystery of a world-class hotel that once hosted royalty before mysteriously plunging into disrepute, perhaps that can escape with their lives and save their immortal souls from eternal damnation. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

Laura Prepon and Misha Collins star as the murderous pair whose deplorable crimes sent shock waves of terror rippling across Canada in director Joel Bender's unflinching look at the crimes of Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka. On the surface Bernardo (Collins) and Homolka (Prepon) were your average everyday Canadian couple; they had a nice house in the suburbs, a dog, lots of friends, and a bright future ahead of them. As Paul is singled out as the prime suspect in a series of particularly vicious rapes and Karla's sister dies under mysterious circumstances, however, a horrifying truth begins to emerge that will lead the pair down a particularly dark path. Could it be that the manipulative murderer used fear and intimidation to keep his wife silent about the reprehensible atrocities he so casually committed without guilt or remorse, or was Karla Homolka in fact an equal partner who simply used her sociopathic power of manipulation to convince authorities that she truly believed she was in mortal danger all along? ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

Directed by former CIA officer Michael Sellers, Vlad chronicles the far-reaching consequences of a professor's (Child's Play veteran Brad Dourif) request that his students visit the tomb of the infamous Vlad Drakul (aka Vlad the Impaler). Known as one of the cruelest figures in world history, Drakul's reputation for dismembering his victims ultimately led to the belief that he himself may have been a vampire -- he was, in fact, the inspiration for Bram Stoker's Dracula. With this in mind, four foreign-exchange students, along with their Romanian tour guide (Billy Zane), venture into the bowels of Drakul's final resting place. When the students come into contact with a legendary necklace, they realize that its rumored ability to traverse throughout time and space is no myth. Vlad features performances from Kam Heskin, Monica Davidescu, Nicholas Irons, and Paul Popowich. ~ Tracie Cooper, All Movie Guide

Three guys from New Jersey decide they need some male bonding with their fathers -- whether their fathers like it or not -- in this independent comedy. When his grandfather dies, Richie Gallo (Scott Baio) finds himself thinking about his relationship with his family, and realizes that he barely knows his aging father Jimmy (Dean Stockwell). Richie discusses his emotionally distant relationship with his dad with his pals Al (Carlo Imperato) and Philly (Thomas Calabro), and they confess they aren't much closer to their own fathers -- and their fractured family lives have had an impact on their less-than-stable relationships with women. Richie decides they should get closer to their dads before it's too late, so Richie, Al, and Philly fast-talk their fathers Jimmy, Charlie (Joe Viterelli), and Phil (Alex Rocco) into joining them for a long weekend getaway of family bonding, though the older men are hardly enthusiastic about the idea. Star Scott Baio co-wrote the screenplay for Face to Face, which was based on a story he wrote with Adam Ferrara and fellow cast member Carlo Imperato. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

In the last of five made-for-TV movies starring Kevin Sorbo as legendary superhero Hercules, the title character has settled down in a peaceful existence as a farmer with his beloved mortal family. Though Hercules tries hard to teach his children nonviolence, his mighty strength must come back into play when a disgruntled Minotaur begins kidnapping the local citizenry. In his efforts to defeat the monster, Hercules is reunited with his old friends Iolaus (Michael Hurst) and Deianeira (Tawny Kitaen). It ultimately falls to Hercules' Olympian father, Zeus (Anthony Quinn), to prove that the misunderstood Minotaur is not so much a villain as a victim of low self esteem. Many of the action highlights are lifted from Sorbo's four previous Hercules films. Syndicated in the U.S. beginning in late November, 1994, Hercules in the Maze of the Minotaur served as the pilot for the weekly series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Tinged with morbid eroticism and drenched in gore, this low-budget vampire thriller stars Michelle Owens as Carris Blass, a sex-crimes detective who offers herself as bait to ensnare a savage sex killer stalking the streets and alleys of Los Angeles -- and discovers too late that the suspect (Gregory A. Geer) is actually a powerful vampire who sexually molests his victims. Once bitten, Blass undergoes a dramatic transformation into femme fatale, along with the usual vampire traits, such as an extreme aversion to sunlight. Despite the doubts of her cynical husband (Michael McMillen), she is determined to bring down her undead foe before her transformation becomes complete. Despite the unconventional twist of depicting the vampire as more of a deranged, rape-happy psychopath than an instinctive predator, there is little to distinguish this blood-soaked outing from the usual horror-exploitation fare. ~ Cavett Binion, All Movie Guide

A funny coming-of-age story about a young man who is expected to take over his Father's Ohio law firm but first decides to take the Summer off and "discover himself." To do this, he joins up with an all-girl rock band and the drummer, Brie Howard, shows him the underbelly of the Los Angeles punk scene. Original comedy from writer/director Max Tash. ~ Tana Hobart, All Movie Guide
This cheap but enthusiastic riff on Stuart Gordon's cult classic Re-Animator stars Ron Kay as a mad scientist who hits on a method of providing the aged and terminally ill with fresh, healthy young bodies for an exorbitant fee. The requisite young physiques are obtained by kidnapping local teenagers and imprisoning them in his dungeon/laboratory prior to the brain-transfer process. Complications arise thanks to a romantic dalliance between the doc's newest accomplice and his female assistant, as well as the increasing threat from several unruly mutants (the result of botched prior experiments) who have developed a craving for human flesh. There's plentiful gore, imaginative makeup effects and some attempts at black humor, but nothing to rival Gordon's over-the-top horror classic. ~ Cavett Binion, All Movie Guide
The tenants of a South Bronx slum rise up against the thugs who want to take over their home in this violent thriller from exploitation legend Roberta Findlay. A vicious multi-ethnic street gang has moved into the basement of a crumbling apartment block in one of the more dangerous neighborhoods in the Bronx. The squatters routinely abuse drugs, fight one another and kill rats for sport until the building's superintendent decides to call the police and the criminals are rounded up and arrested. The residents -- ranging from elderly couples and single parents to bohemians struggling to make ends meet -- are overjoyed until the police are forced to release the gang later the same day due to a lack of evidence. The gang returns to the tenement to get revenge on the people who informed on them, forcing the peaceful tenants to respond with violence in order to protect their homes and loved ones. Released unrated after the MPAA threatened to give the film an X rating for violence, Tenement was also released under the titles Game of Survival and Slaughter In The South Bronx. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

In this unremittingly serious, undistinguished, yet well-acted tale of the supernatural, two different men are possessed by spirits of Native Americans after they separately wander into a sacred burial ground, angering the spirits enough for them to retaliate. When John (Gabriel Walsh) and Sybil (Susan Strasberg) come home with their son after a trip to the Mojave Desert, they bring an unusual stone back as a memento of the trip. The stone seems to cause strange noises and other inexplicable phenomena, and then one day their son is killed by a truck driver in a freak highway accident. As the father's mental condition deteriorates from that point onward, it is revealed that both John and the truck driver are possessed by angry spirits of Native American warriors, and unless the spirits are exorcised, the two men are destined to meet in a battle to the death. Director John Bender cuts back and forth between the truck driver and the father, which might confuse (or even irritate) some viewers since in the beginning there is no explanation of how or why the two men are connected. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

Not exactly meant for intellectuals or feminists, this juvenile comedy-drama centers around the competition between a decaying, old-fashioned gas station and that of a sleek, modern version across the street. Neither Uncle Joe (Huntz Hall) nor his station are doing well. So niece June (Kirsten Baker) comes to the rescue, enlisting three buxom friends with names like April (Sandy Johnson) and January (Rikki Marin) who help fill out the rest of the calendar year, and occasionally fill up tanks when not disco dancing in the garage. Using the only weapons they have, the young women wear as little as possible to distract the competition, to attract customers, to distract the gangsters sent over to teach them a lesson, and to distract attention away from the script. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide

- Kirsten Baker, Dennis Bowen, (more)
