An army experiment gone awry sets the stage for terror in this tale of a small town overtaken by ravenous flesh eaters. The undead have risen, and Main St. is packed with hordes of gut-munching copses that crave fresh meat. No one is safe from the armies of the damned, but perhaps there is hope as a group of local teens embark on a mission to dispatch with the dead and save mankind from complete annihilation. The gore flows in chunks and the flesh tears away like wallpaper in this apocalyptic shocker from writer/director/editor Steven C. Miller. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

A comet crashed into the Earth, bringing a mass of parasites capable of transforming typical human beings into flesh-eating ghouls in this apocalyptic zombie flick from genre specialist Jake Kennedy. When the citizens of planet Earth noticed an enormous comet looming ominously in the atmosphere, the powers that be assured everyone that they were perfectly safe. They couldn't have been more wrong: After the massive, icy chunk of parasitic rock comes slamming to the ground, the dust that it kicks up transforms everyone within hundreds of miles into raging zombies with an unholy appetite for human flesh. Now, in a remote complex far removed from civilization, the last remaining humans huddle together and prepare to make a stand against an unstoppable army of the undead. With each passing minute their chances of survival fade, leaving the injured, frightened survivors to become the final fresh meal for a new race of cannibalistic mutants. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Ten years after The Lion King shot to the top at the box office and first introduced the characters of Simba (Matthew Broderick) and his pals Timon (Nathan Lane) and Pumbaa (Ernie Sabella), Disney presented this retelling of the Academy Award-winning animated musical. Switching the perspective to that of meerkat Timon and warthog Pumbaa, The Lion King 1 1/2 puts a new spin on the events of the original film. This time around, the comic duo are conveniently at the center of much of the story. Along with returning cast members Moira Kelly, Whoopi Goldberg, and Cheech Marin, The Simpsons' Julie Kavner and Seinfeld's Jerry Stiller lend their voices to newcomer characters Timon's Mom and Timon's Uncle Max, respectively. The straight-to-video film also features the never-before-heard song "That's All I Need." ~ Matthew Tobey, Rovi

Teenage lust turns deadly in this slightly campy exploitation drama. Debbie Strand (Rose McGowan) is a sexy but troubled teenager with a checkered past who is sent to live with her grandmother after the death of her parents. Grandma attempts to keep Debbie on a short leash, but she's soon sneaking out for not always wholesome fun with her new friends. Debbie, who has never had trouble attracting whatever man she wants, sets her sights on Peter Rinaldi (Alex McArthur), a teacher at her high school. However, Peter has both a fiancée and strong scruples, so he repeatedly rejects Debbie's advances. But Hell hath no fury like a Debbie scorned, and before long Peter finds that his life is ruined and bodies are piling up, as an angry Ms. Strand takes her revenge on her would-be suitor. Also released under the title Dearly Devoted (and not based on the oft-filmed Raymond Radiguet novel), Devil in the Flesh was co-scripted by Kelly Carlin-McCall, daughter of noted comedian George Carlin. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

In this suspenseful drama, a cozy second honeymoon turns into a nightmare when a compassionate young couple saves a lost hunter from freezing to death. Eric and Alicia's ordeal began months before when Eric was shot in the stomach during a car-jacking. Loyal Alicia helped with every step of his four-month-long recovery. As soon as he is sufficiently healed, the two head to the mountains for their long-awaited vacation. No sooner are they settled in before a cozy blaze when the door knocks and Cale, the lost hunter stands before them. The next morning, Eric goes to his truck so he can take Cale to the hospital, but the truck won't start. Suspiciously, Alicia rifles through Cales's belongings and discovers he carries no identification. Alarmed, the couple copes with the situation as best they can. Matters get worse when Cale makes it clear that he wants Alicia and considers Eric expendable. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi

Martial Law is a no-brainer action flick starring Steven McQueen, the son of the late, great Steve McQueen. Buddy cop duo Sean Thompson and Billie Black are on the trail of a killer whose signature weapon is a punch that stops the heart. The bad guy, played by David Carradine, also runs a number of illicit businesses, including trafficking in drugs. Things get personal when Sean realizes his little brother has fallen under the killer's sway, and hot when Sean realizes the feisty Billie might be falling for him. The film runs a predictable course as the two close in on the killer, rescue the little brother, defeat the evil henchmen, and finally capture the bad guy. Its formulaic story aside, Martial Law is an interesting film for its blending of the early-'90s hysteria around serial killers with the equally prevalent hysteria around gangs and urban youth. ~ Brian Whitener, Rovi

John Garfieldesque leading man Robert Forster plays a cop in The Banker. The title character is above-suspicion financier Duncan Regehr, whom Forster suspects of being a serial killer of prostitutes. Such is the banker's power that Forster is threatened with unemployment, or death, or both if he acts upon his suspicions. The detective is forced to use the "give him enough rope" ploy-and nearly ends up with his own neck in the noose. Old favorites Richard Roundtree, Leif Garrett, Jeff Conaway, and E. J. Peaker dot the supporting cast of this contemporary Jack-the-Ripper chiller. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

In this slasher film, the exuberant young participants upon a party-line, a fad during the '80s in which young people called a special number and talked to many others in hopes of making a love connection, have no idea that there are two serial killers in their midst. Fortunately, a veteran police captain and the new DA have teamed up to find the killers before many more people die horrible deaths. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi
