In this action-comedy, a sorority girl plays poker with a buxom band of biker chicks and ends up losing all her tuition money. To scare up some quick cash, she and her sisters decide to pose for a bikini calendar. Unfortunately, they end up exploited when sneaky photographers rig their dressing room and film them in the nude. It was a rotten trick and now the girls are really angry. They are so angry that they learn martial arts and then challenge their leather-clad hog-riding rivals to a no-holds-barred wrestling match. With its catchy title and over-the-top premise, this fairly amusing horror comedy plays like a kinder, gentler variation on the type of fare offered by the bad-taste moguls at Troma Studios. The story begins in the thick of a metaphysical battle between a decidedly female Satan (Lezlie Deane) and one of Heaven's less-than-angelic "Chasers" (Twin Peaks, pretty-boy Dana Ashbrook), ending with the former hiding out in the body of timid wallflower Maggie (Liane Curtis), whose blind date turns even more disastrous. Only after the seriously over-vamped Maggie has seduced and destroyed (literally) every man in sight does the Chaser finally catch up to her. The battle ensues with renewed gusto, the bodies and souls of countless mortal bystanders hanging in the balance. It seems this ever-escalating conflict (employing everything from rocket launchers to possessed restaurant entrees) is a mere extension of an ongoing lovers' spat between the devil and her heavenly pursuer, whose obnoxious philandering first incurred her satanic wrath. Another "get even with Hollywood" satire in the tradition of SOB and Movers and Shakers, The Big Picture is an elongated inside joke complete with un-billed celebrity cameos. In this first feature-film directorial effort by actor/writer Christopher Guest, Kevin Bacon plays a "boy wonder" director whose willingness to compromise his ideals allows him to keep afloat in Tinseltown. Bacon's corruption begins when his first Hollywood project, a black-and-white experimental film about an over-40 menage a trois, is distorted beyond recognition into a color, big-budget "youth trip". Bacon hasn't really sold out; he's merely waiting to accrue enough industry clout to strike back at the Philistines in charge. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Self-made wealthy guy Thornton Melon (Rodney Dangerfield) decides he needs a better education -- and also to spend some time away from his cheating new wife. Thornton joins his son, Jason (Keith Gordon) at college. Dad hopes to gain his son's respect (isn't that always Dangerfield's motivation?), while his son tries to fit in with his snobbish and brutish fellow students. English professor Diane Turner (Sally Kellerman) forms a strong bond with Thornton, encouraging both father and son to stick out their first year despite all odds. The finale involves some slapstick at the swimming pool diving board, and the obligatory commencement address delivered by Dangerfield, who proves that he can crack jokes without tugging at his tie. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

The plot of this retrograde softcore film starts off when two American low-budget, sexploitation filmmakers arrive in Greece looking for females (whether for their filming or their own amusement does not seem to be relevant). A fellow named Scott (Brad Zutaut) tags along, and when all is said and done, transfers his affections from his fiancée to a woman waiting tables on the island of Rhodes. Part of the 88-minute running time here is devoted to a floating classroom with semi-nude students, the other part is dedicated to the filming of the sexploitation feature and the adventures of a few minor characters. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi
