An artist trying to climb the ladder of success spends his time with one who had fallen past most of the rungs in this whimsical comedy from Spain with an international cast. Zeta (Edu Soto) is a struggling writer trying to make a name for himself, but his agent (Jagvier Mejia) doesn't believe in his work and keeps giving him jobs ghost-writing for others. Zeta's latest assignment is to finish a novel for someone else in a mere four weeks, but he's having a hard time finding the inspiration for the project. Zeta spends much of his spare time at a neighborhood bar, Café Rossingol, a hangout for bohemians and eccentrics where he's fallen for one of the barmaids, Alicia (Barbara Goenaga), though she's made it clear she doesn't want to be in love with anyone. The Rossingol is run by Pascal (Dominique Pinon), who used to be the leader of a theater troupe, but ever since their venue was torn down to make room for a public sculpture, he's been reduced to serving drinks to others. Pascal gets word that several members of his old company are coming back to town for a visit, including beautiful singer Irene (Leigh Zimmerman) and her accompanist Kurt (Michael Jenn). While Pascal is excited to see his old colleagues, he's also nervous about what they may have to say to him, and he's giving serious thought to skipping town rather than facing them. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

The debut film by director Robert Edwards, Land of the Blind, is a political satire starring Ralph Fiennes as a military man who helps overthrow his government. He does so at the urging of a political prisoner, played by Donald Sutherland, who has been outspoken about the corruption of the current regime. The soldier learns that corruption may in fact be an inevitable part of having power. Set in an unnamed country without ever giving indication of a specific time period, the allegorical film had its North American debut at the 2006 Tribeca Film Festival. ~ Perry Seibert, All Movie Guide

Bloody Sunday director Paul Greengrass marks the five-year anniversary on the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the United States with this speculative meditation on the events that took place onboard the fourth hijacked plane, and the actions of the passengers who gave their lives to ensure the safety of others. Told in real time and acted out by a cast of unknowns who were provided with detailed studies of their real-life counterparts, United 93 attempts to reconstruct the airborne tragedy from the view of the ground and flight controllers, the passengers, and their nervous families awaiting word on the fate of their loved ones. As the terrified travelers and crew gradually become aware of the historical events taking place on the ground so far beneath them, the 90 minutes in which a random collection of strangers realized their fate and came together to confront an unthinkable threat are re-created. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

John Hughes and Chris Columbus repeat their best-selling formula from the first Home Alone film with this sequel. Once again Kevin McCallister's (Macaulay Culkin) family leave him behind, only now he gets on a flight to New York instead of going with his family to Miami. Kevin manages to hail a cab and is delivered to the doorsteps of the Plaza Hotel, where, using his father's credit card, he rents out a suite and has the time of his life -- although a smarmy hotel clerk (Tim Curry) and bellboy (Rob Schneider) eye him with suspicion. But ingenious Kevin keeps them at bay, using the same tomfoolery he applied to his uncle in the first picture. He takes time out from his consumer debauch to chat with a friendly old toy-store magnate (Eddie Bracken) and pontificate to a homeless Pigeon Lady (Brenda Fricker) on the meaning of Christmas. But then he runs into his old enemies Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern). When he finds out that they plan on robbing the old man's toy store on Christmas Eve, he mans the battle stations once again, complete with electric prods, flames of fire, and sundry blunt instruments. ~ Paul Brenner, All Movie Guide
