Billy Zane Movies

Actor Billy Zane kicked off his stage career in his hometown of Chicago. Able to harness his spoiled-brat countenance and quirky gestures to invoke either sympathy or repulsion, Zane has been seen principally in secondary roles in such films as Back to the Future (1985), Memphis Belle (1990), Orlando (1992), and Posse (1993). His most flamboyant role was as the young drifter who -- obvious to everyone but the hero and heroine -- is not what he seems in the Australian thriller Dead Calm (1989). Zane had a rare starring role in the filmization of the once popular comic strip The Phantom (1996), in which he showed off his lithe, muscular physique in a form-fitting purple body suit and performed many of the stylish film's daring stunts himself. The following year he had a lead role in the most successful film of his career, playing Kate Winslet's vile fiancé in Titanic. Zane is the younger brother of film and TV actress Lisa Zane. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

A Turkish special agent vows revenge against the evil American CIA agent who masterminded the humiliating raid on an undercover Turkish unit aiding the War on Terror in director Serdar Akar's controversial action film. It was July 4, 2003, when U.S. forces surrounded the headquarters of a clandestine Turkish unit operating in the northern Iraqi city of Sulaymaniyah and humiliated their partners in the War on Terror by marching out the agents with hoods over their heads before inexplicably deporting their mortified allies. Soon after detailing the harrowing event in a letter to his friend Polat (Necati Sasmaz), disgraced Turkish officer Suleyman Aslan (Tayfun Eraslan) shamefully ends his own life with one fatal shot to the head. Now determined to make the man responsible for the raid pay for his overzealous transgression, Polat rounds up loyal pals Memati (Gurkan Uygun) and Abdulhey (Kenan Coban) for a revenge mission that will take them across the border of Kurdistan and directly into the dark heart of the War on Terror. Upon arriving in Iraq to target secret CIA unit head Sam William Marshall (Billy Zane), Polat and friends watch horrified as the Christian fanatic raids a local wedding party where both the groom and a young boy are carelessly gunned down on little more than a hunch that terrorists may be seeking anonymity within the crowd. Though she is warned by her adoptive father (Ghassan Massoud), a tolerant Muslim leader, that to seek revenge against Agent Marshall would be to go against the teachings of Islam, widowed bride Leila (Berguzar Korel) is subsequently consumed by her own hunger for vengeance. In the days that follow, Polat, Memati, and Adbulhey enter into a deadly game of cat and mouse with the psychotic CIA operative that culminates with a violent confrontation in a nearby village. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Celebrated writer and director John Sayles turns his eye to politics in America in this drama. The son of respected Colorado politician Senator Jud Pilager (Michael Murphy), Dicky Pilager (Chris Cooper) is a charming but half-bright man with a bad habit of mangling the English language and a decided lack of political correctness. Dicky is also in the midst of a hard-fought campaign to become governor of Colorado. Dicky's campaign manager, Chuck Raven (Richard Dreyfuss), is a ruthless sort who will leave no stone unturned to see that his candidate wins, so when Dicky snags a dead body while fishing during the shooting of a campaign commercial, Raven is determined to find out if his man has been set up. Raven hires Danny O'Brien (Danny Huston), a former journalist turned private investigator, to find out who the dead man is and if he might be connected to Pilager's enemies. But the deeper O'Brien digs into the matter, the more he finds out about the candidate and his family -- and very little of it is flattering.
