The fourth installment of the Jesse Stone series finds restless New England police chief Stone (Tom Selleck) fighting boredom by attempting to solve a twelve year-old cold case involving a murdered bank teller. Exiled to Paradise after suffering though a nasty divorce and being busted for drinking on the job, Stone now leads a quiet life of writing parking tickets and trying to suppress the urge to cut loose with the booze and babes. When one of his officers out on maternity leave and the other recovering from a recent gunshot wound, Stone turns to some old cold cases to keep himself occupied. Twelve years ago, a local bank teller was killed in broad daylight. Though the gunman responsible for the crime was never brought to justice, Stone soon uncovers a crucial piece of evidence that went overlooked during the original investigation. Originally released to video as Night Class, this actioner stars Sean Young as Claire Sherwood, a sexy burglar who persuades unwitting security guard Jake Franklin (Rick Peters) to help her cronies knock over the hotel where Jake works. Suspected of being the thieves' inside man, Jake is fired, whereupon he makes it his life's mission to track down the crooks and recover the stolen goods (consisting mainly of an ornament of sentimental value). At the same time, Jake hopes to qualify for the police force, undergo a rigorous training process to do so. Jake's diligence may pay off sooner than he expects: Claire and her confederates have been at each other's throats ever since the heist, and something calamitous may occur at any moment. The idyllic existence of New York art director Mallory Jordan (Sean Young) is shattered when her ad-executive husband Andrew Keswick (Charles Shaughnessy) and their two daughters are brutally slain in a robbery. Suddenly alone, the devastated Mallory can see no reason to ever again emerge from her bedroom--or, for that matter, to go on living. Helping Mallory escape from her self-imposed shell is compassionate police detective Michael DeMarco (Jack Scalia), who makes it his personal mission to track down and prosecute the persons responsible for the tragedy (evidently, DeMarco is the only homicide cop in New York who works without a partner!) As part of her "therapy", Mallory is allowed to accompany DeMarco as he interrogates and arrests the prime suspect--and as the days pass, the couple spends more and more time together, ultimately falling in love. The best part of this made-for-TV drama is the depiction of Mallory's all-consuming grief, which lingers in the memory far longer than her ultimate (and inevitable) healing process. Released in the US on cable television, Blue Ice stars Michael Caine as an older, tireder version of his 1960s "Harry Palmer" character (his name, in fact, is Harry Anders). An M16 agent-turned-nightclub owner, Caine is a man of steadfast loyalties. Thus he takes it personally when several friends from his espionage days are mysteriously killed. Caine investigates on his own, which brings him in very close proximity with enigmatic consul's wife Sean Young. Befitting the fact that Caine's character is a jazz fancier, Blue Ice boasts an evocative musical score by Michael Kamen, of Lethal Weapon and Die Hard fame. An extended short from painter-turned-filmmaker Robert Longo, who would later helm Johnny Mnemonic, Arena Brains consists of a series of interlocking vignettes set in New York City in the late 1980s. The stories -- created by five different screenwriters, including Eric Bogosian, Richard Price, and Longo himself -- are mostly loosely structured attempts at satirizing the neuroses and eccentricities of members of Lower Manhattan's art community. This superficial, affluent subculture is presented in contrast with the reality of life on the New York City streets, as the film moves from galleries to alleyways and back again. Actors like Sean Young and Ray Liotta play small roles, while appearances by Bogosian, Ron Vawter, and other Manhattan theater and performance-art figures reinforce the film's hip, insider feel. (R.E.M. lead singer Michael Stipe even makes an appearance, as a mostly silent, nameless character who wanders through the various segments, observing the film's action). The result is a rather dated, uneven film that is best viewed now as a prime example of the indulgent artistic culture it intended to satirize. The marketing of the video release misleadingly emphasizes a not-so-prominent soundtrack, featuring songs by Husker Du, The Cure, P.I.L., and others. ~ Judd Blaise, All Movie Guide

In this light-weight romantic story, based on F. Scott Fitzgerald's Myra Meets His Family and set in the 1920s, a young woman is out for a carefree time until one day she decides she needs to marry, and then her life changes more than she could have imagined. When Myra (Sean Young) picks out a dashing rich friend (Lenny von Dohlen) as her lucky future bridegroom, she is unprepared for his off-beat parents. After arriving at the family mansion to meet her future in-laws, the unsuspecting young Myra is at first treated with a certain aloofness and then with straightforward cruelty. After several twists of fate, Myra has an opportunity to give as good as she got. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide
