Few sacred cows go un-gored in this satirical Spanish movie. In Spain, as in England, instead of getting together over a round of golf, it is customary for the power elite to gather at a country estate for a long weekend of "hunting," which basically consists of standing in one spot shooting at game which is being driven toward the hunters. Between shots, the elite converse. In the story, a Catalan businessman pays an impoverished nobleman for the use of his country estate and its game. He is hosting this party to win the goodwill of a group of investors whom he hopes will back one of his schemes. Sprinkled among the businessmen are some more twisted types, every one of them a genuine aristocrat or the member of some government or other -- even a dictator in exile from his Latin American country. A powerful but disapproving priest surveys the scene with outspoken scorn. When the businessman learns that he has backed the wrong horse, and that a new government is being formed, he scrambles to curry favor with those few of his guests who are part of the next group to come to power. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide

This is a superior Hammer-style effort from Spanish horror star, Paul Naschy (aka Jacinto Molina), better known for his recurring werewolf character Valdemar Daninsky. Here Naschy portrays a rather beefy-looking version of the legendary vampire masquerading as Dr. Wendell Marlowe, the director of a castle-based sanitarium in which a quartet of lovely but unfortunate travelers have sought shelter for the night. Before long, the count has made late-night snacks of the three of them, sparing the virginal fourth woman for a ceremony intended to revive his long-dead daughter. All the Naschy trademarks are on hand, from the rich gothic feel to the nearly senseless story line (made worse by clumsy re-editing in the American release version); most available prints are missing much of the film's plentiful gore and kinky eroticism. This film is also known as Cemetery Girls, Cemetery Tramps, and Vampire Playgirls, among others. ~ Cavett Binion, All Movie Guide

One of the more notorious Spanish exercises in gory horror, this film from Basque director Javier Aguirre stars Jacinto Molina (aka "Paul Naschy") as a hunchbacked Swiss morgue attendant named Gotho. He's in love with a woman who dies of tuberculosis, causing Gotho to grab an axe and chop up some medical students who want to dissect her then hide her body in a dank crypt. A hallucination scene featuring the woman's body being eaten by rats while Gotho beats and burns them featured real rats, who bit Molina several times. Eventually, Gotho strikes a bargain with mad scientist Alberto Dalbes, who agrees to raise the hunchback's beloved from the dead in exchange for fresh corpses from the morgue to feed his monstrous blob-like creation. Rossana Yanni appears as an imprisoned psychiatrist, and the film co-stars Maria Perschy and Vic Winner ~ Robert Firsching, All Movie Guide

Cult director Jesus Franco revived the sexy female detectives of the Red Lips Agency (first seen in 1960's Labios Rojos) for this entertainingly bizarre comedic thriller. Diana (Janine Reynaud) and Regina (Rossana Yanni) investigate the disappearances of several models and nightclub performers, leading them to mysterious artist Klaus Thiller (Adrian Hoven). Thiller's sadomasochistic paintings, which lovingly depict the torture and murder of women resembling those missing, make the girls suspicious. When Diana meets Thiller in a nightclub, she must go undercover as one of his models to solve the crime, risking her life in his chamber of horrors. Fernando Garcia Morcillo's wonderful jazz soundtrack, sardonic dark humor, and a cast including Michel Lemoine, Marta Reves, Ana Casares, and Marcelo Arroita Jauregui make this twisted adventure worthwhile and fun. Spanish director Julio Perez Tabernero appears, and Franco makes an amusing cameo as a bumbling security guard. Prints run 92 and 88 minutes. The Red Lips girls returned in Besame, Monstruo. ~ Robert Firsching, All Movie Guide

This low-budget Spanish-Italian co-production was the handiwork of cult filmmaker Amando De Ossorio, best known for his series of Knights Templar zombie films which began with La Noche del Terror Ciego (1971). Faded '50s bombshell Anita Ekberg stars as Silvia, a young woman who travels to the family castle which she will soon inherit. When she arrives, she meets her uncle (Julian Ugarte), who gives her some rather disheartening news. Many years before, a nun named Malenka was burned as a witch in the town square and swore to return for revenge. Silvia looks just like Malenka, and the villagers are terrified that the witch's spirit has been reincarnated in her. Soon, villagers start dying, and Silvia is so sure that she is possessed that she breaks off her engagement, convinced that she is destined to kill her beloved (Gianni Medici). Naturally, as the title already gives away, the blood-drinking attacks are part of a plot by Ugarte to drive Silvia mad and steal her inheritance. ~ Robert Firsching, All Movie Guide

Janine Reynaud and Rossana Yanni return as Diana and Regina, the sexy female detectives from the Red Lips Agency, in cult filmmaker Jesus Franco's enjoyable sequel to El Caso de las Dos Bellezas. The women receive some song lyrics from a messenger who has been stabbed in the back, and they visit an island inhabited by strange, suspicious people. The mystery revolves around the notes of the late eugenics expert Prof. Bertrand, who seems to have been creating muscular mutants in red posing straps before his death. Diana and Regina are kidnapped by lesbians, threatened by the mutants, and appear in several sexy striptease acts in this silly, entertaining romp. Michel Lemoine is the prime suspect, Adrian Hoven and Chris Howland appear as Interpol agents and Franco makes a cameo as a shifty informant. Prints run 83 and 77 minutes. ~ Robert Firsching, All Movie Guide
