An ordinary lawman goes outside the law to carry out his own brand of justice in this dark-themed thriller. Frank Castle (Thomas Jane) is an FBI agent who deeply loves his wife and son, but is also strongly devoted to his work. Castle's investigation of a powerful crime cartel leads to a gunfight which claims the life of a young boy, whose father is underworld kingpin Howard Saint (John Travolta). Furious and eager for revenge, Saint arranges for Castle and his family to be murdered in retaliation. However, while Castle's wife and son are killed, he somehow survives, even though he's believed to have perished. Bent on stopping Saint once and for all, Castle remakes himself as The Punisher, a ruthless and heavily armed killing machine who will not rest until Saint and his crew have been wiped clean from the Earth. In this combination sequel and prequel to the surprise box-office success The Omega Code, one man becomes the leader of an evil empire that could destroy the world, and his brother must rise against him in the defense of good. Stone Alexander (played as a child by Gavin Fink) is a moody, dark-tempered child whose parents died shortly after he was born. The mother who adopted Stone died several years later while giving birth to another son, David, and Stone is unable to forgive his brother for unwittingly taking his mother from him. Stone goes so far as to attempt to murder David, and their father, prominent businessman Daniel Alexander (David Hedison), responds by shipping Stone off to military school. There, Stone falls under the tutelage of The Guardian (Udo Kier), an instructor at the school who is actually an emissary of Satan. While the enmity between Stone (played as a teenager by Noah Huntley) and David (played by Chad Michael Murray) cools a bit with time, Stone once again finds himself in a bitter rivalry with his brother when they both fall in love with the same woman, Gabriella (played as a teenager by Elisa Scialpi). Stone eventually wins Gabriella's hand and they marry, as Stone (played as an adult by Michael York) rises to power as the ruthless leader of the military arm of the European Union; David (played as an adult by Michael Biehn), meanwhile, becomes a powerful figure in American politics, and is elected to the office of Vice President. What neither David nor Gabriella (played as an adult by Diane Venora) fully understand is that, under the influence of The Guardian, Stone has taken on the role of the Antichrist, and he attempts to curry his brother's favor (and arrange events that will make David president) in a bid for world domination. When it becomes clear to David that the goal of his brother's campaign is to put the world in the power of Satan, David realizes America and its allies must join forces against Stone's troops in a battle in Megiddo, Israel -- predicted in the Book of Revelations as the place of the final battle of good versus evil. In this fish-out-of-water comedy, Jamie Foxx plays a man named Michael Dawson, though he's confused for both Puff Daddy and Mike Tyson by the citizenry of the podunk southwest town that serves as the setting for Held Up. Road-tripping Michael and Rae (Nia Long) stop in for gas in Michael's new vintage roadster, but she grabs a ride to the airport with a truck full of cowboys after learning he blew more than 10,000 dollars earmarked for buying a home on the automobile. Moments later, Michael loses the car as well when a youth cons him out of the keys. Just when his day couldn't get any worse, Michael lands in the middle of a botched hold-up by amateurs trying to knock over the convenience store. All variety of local law enforcement, from the sheriff (Barry Corbin) to truckloads of unofficial shotgun-toting "deputies," quickly descends on the scene. Michael tries to sweet-talk the frightened gunman (Eduardo Yanez), befriend his fellow hostages (Sarah Paulson and John Cullum), and plan how to reach the airport before Rae's flight leaves, all while not getting shot by the hair triggers inside and outside the store. The film was produced and originally publicized under the title "Inconvenienced." ~ Derek Armstrong, All Movie Guide

Also known as Hello, She Lied, this made-for-cable drama stars Kathy Ireland as Marsha Thomas, a professional con artist with a conscience and a surprisingly strong sense of scruples. Be that as it may, Marsha is heavily in debt to a crooked lawyer who had saved her brother Frankie (Shareef Malnik) from a prison term, thus she reluctantly agrees to participate in a scheme to cheat an innocent young woman out of a multimillion-dollar inheritance. As luck would have it, the "innocent" in question is a blonde striptease artist named Jean Ivers (Audie England) -- and in order to learn all she can about Jean to impersonate her for the purposes of the scheme, Marsha is obliged to get a job at the same strip club where Jean works. Rather surprisingly, Kathy Ireland doesn't bare all in this R-rated opus, though we see plenty of co-star Audie England and the rest of the "peelers." Miami Hustle premiered July 21, 1996, on the Showtime channel. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Based on Carl Hiaasen's satirical novel, Striptease tells the story of Erin (Demi Moore), who has just gotten a divorce from Darrell (Robert Patrick), the sleazy ex-con she foolishly married. However, the judge's memories of Darrell's days as a football hero win him custody of their daughter, and Erin, concerned for her child's safety, is determined to fight the decision. Erin has just lost her position as a secretary for the FBI, so, to cover her legal bills, she takes a job as an exotic dancer at a strip club called the Eager Beaver. While she has no experience taking off her clothes in front of an audience, Erin soon makes friends with the fellow dancers and finds a protector in the club's burly but good-hearted bouncer, Shad (Ving Rhames). She also makes a few fans among the regulars at the club, most notably David Dillbeck (Burt Reynolds), a drunken lout with a bottomless appetite for sleaze -- who also happens to be a conservative congressman with ties to right-wing religious groups. One of Erin's admirers snaps a photo of her with the congressman when a brawl breaks out at the club, and he suggests that it would make fine blackmail material. However, when the man with the photo turns up dead, Erin discovers that Dillbeck's people play a bit rougher than she expected. The home video version of Striptease contains two minutes of footage that was clipped from the theatrical release in order to win the film an R rating. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

In the U.S.-made films starring Charles Bronson, he is invariably an innocent and ordinary man who is forced by circumstances into fighting back against brutal thugs and official indifference. Many Mexican-made movies starring Eduardo Yanez cover much the same territory. In the story, Roca (Duran) is blithely making plans for his upcoming marriage and has gone to consult with his father about something. He discovers that his father, a banker, has been turning a blind (but knowledgeable) eye to Mafia doings for many years. He was willing to do this until the mob got involved in the drug trade, and now he must find some way to disappear. As it happens, the gangs get wind of the situation, and both men must go into hiding. When the Mafia kills the father, the son embarks on a one-man war. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide

This vigilante flick features Eduardo Yanez as Yako and Diane Ferretti as his wife Diana. They are a honeymoon couple camping out in the woods alone, until a band of mountain brigands attacks them. The outlaws tie Yako to a tree and then gang-rape and murder his wife. After they leave, Yako exhibits more ingenuity than is usual for a soft city-dweller. He fashions his own weapons out of what he finds in the forest, and then he begins to methodically disarm the rapist-killers and wreak his revenge. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide
