Season Eight of The Drew Carey Show is launched with the first episode of a two-part story. Winfred-Louder has been purchased by a pair of computer nerds named Scott (Jonathan Mangum) and Evan (Kyle Howard) who transform the place into a dot.com called "NeverendingStore." This means that Drew and Mimi have lost the jobs--and making matters worse, Mimi's husband Steve is unemployed and Drew's homicidal "ex" Nicki is still living in his house, wrecking all his current romances. Enter the series' newest regular, Kellie Newmark (Cynthia Watros), an exotic dancer who turns out to be Drew's old high-school classmate--and before long, SHE has taken up residence in Casa Carey. Finally, Kate returns from New York with a shocking announcement. When the wife (Swoosie Kurtz) of televangelist Emmitt Chambliss (Gary Grubbs) is brought into the ER suffering the aftereffects of a recent face-lift, Chambliss draws up plans to telecast a fundraiser from the hospital. Elsewhere, Ross (George Clooney) and Carol (Julianna Margulies) put their careers on the line by performing an experimental treatment on six-month-old meth addict Josh McLean instead of returning the baby to his mother. Romano (Paul McCrane) reacts strongly to the relationship between Benton (Eriq La Salle) and Corday (Alex Kingston). To the citizens of Vancouver, Duncan MacLeod (Adrian Paul) is just your average handsome, ponytailed, introspective antiques dealer. In truth, however, Duncan is an Immortal, born 400 years ago in Scotland, totally impervious to death or serious injury unless he is beheaded in a sword fight with another Immortal. He has also, over the centuries, built up enormous strength and energy, the result of absorbing those qualities from evil immortals whom he has decapitated. Duncan's mortal lover Tessa Noel (Alexandra Vandernoot) is aware of his secret identity, and though saddened by the fact that she will grow old while he remains forever young, she loves him all the same. Among Duncan's friends and acquaintances are Richie Ryan (Stan Kirsch), a reformed burglar who works in Duncan's antique shop, and TV reporter Randi McFarland (Amanda Wyss), who after witnessing a number of strange events is certain that there's something "different" about Duncan but can't put her finger on it. Halfway through the first season of Highlander, Duncan, Tessa, and Richie move to Paris establishing a pattern that would be followed in most seasons to come. Apprised by his mentor Darius (Werner Stocker) that evil forces are conspiring against him, Duncan is successful in warding those forces off -- but alas, Darius is not so lucky, and thereby hangs the plot strand that will be picked up when season two of Highlander gets under way. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

After being involved in a horrible accident, Duncan (Adrian Paul) is rushed to a hospital ER -- where, by virtue of his Immortal status, he makes an immediate recovery. This rouses the curiosity of a Dr. Wilder (Joe Pantoliano of The Sopranos), who kidnaps Duncan in hopes of learning the secret of his "miracle cure." Stopping at nothing to get what he wants, Wilder ends up committing murder -- and Duncan is blamed for the killing. A substantial improvement on its predecessor, this in-name-only sequel retains only a few characters from the original To Die For, standing alone as an effective vampire tale in its own right. The complex plot revolves around the facilities of vampire Doctor Max (Michael Praed), whose stores of whole blood provide temporary food supplies for wayward bloodsuckers in need of a fix. Into Max's clinic arrives young Danny (Jay Underwood) and his sister Nina (Rosalind Allen), whose adopted baby is suffering from an unknown affliction. While Danny eventually falls under the seductive spell of the translucent-looking Celia (Amanda Wyss), Max's predatory brother Tom (Steve Bond) sets his sights on Nina's unprotected neck, leading to a confrontation with Max over the fate of Nina and her child, revealed to be a human/vampire half-breed, of whom Max is the father. Events are further stirred by the arrival of manic vampire hunter Martin (Scott Jakoby), who is obsessed with destroying them all. This slick and stylish production belies its low budget with technical panache (aside from occasional cost-cutting measures in the special effects department), which includes superb photography, razor-sharp editing, and a script that provides dimension and believable motivations for its characters without skimping on scares. ~ Cavett Binion, Rovi

The three-hour TV docudrama The Final Days was based on the Bob Woodward/Carl Bernstein chronicle of President Richard M. Nixon's last months in the White House. Given his behavior during the entire Watergate imbroglio, Nixon cannot help but come off as a paranoid power-abuser. As played by Lane Smith, however, Nixon also seems all too human--a confused, pathetic individual who cannot fully comprehend how, in less than one year, he can lose everything he has worked for in life. Theodore Bikel co-stars as Henry Kissinger, while other participants in the events of August 1973 through August 1974 are played by David Ogden Stiers (as Alexander Haig), Gregg Henry (John Dean), Susan Brown (Pat Nixon), Ann Hearn (Julie), Amanda Wyss (Tricia), Ramon Bieri (John Sirica), Diana Bellamy (Rose Mary Woods) and Alan Fudge (Gerald Ford).
