More TV animation from the folks at DC Comics, The Legion of Super Heroes concerned a group of crimefighters from the 31st century who at the outset of the series traveled backward some 1,000 years to enlist the legendary Superman in their battle against such villains as the Emerald Empress and the Fatal Five. Unfortunately, the futuristic Legion traveled a bit too far back, and thus met Superman when he was still the youthful Clark Kent, as yet unaware of his "Man of Steel" destiny. Despite this setback, the crimefighters whisked Clark to their own time, there to indoctrinate him in the duties and powers of superheroism, and to clue him in as to what his own career had in store for him. Taking their marching orders from the Mission Monitor Board on behalf of the United Planets, the Legion numbered such members as field leader Lightning Lad (aka Garth Ranzz of the planet Winath), who was able to summon up lightning bolts; Saturn Girl (aka Irma Ardeen of the moon of Titan), who practiced telepathy and mind control; Bouncing Boy (aka Chuck Taine of Earth), capable of inflating himself to monstrous proportions; Phantom Girl (aka Tinya Wazzo), a "Princess Leia" type from the extra-dimensional world of Bgztil, who could pass through solid matter; Timber Wolf (aka Brin Londo of the planet Zunn), a "Wolverine"-style lycanthrope; Brainiac 5, the youngest and smartest of the group, whose robotic powers embraced the ability to transform into weapons, vehicles, and the like; and the self-explanatory Triplicate Girl. Though fast action was the order of the day, the series possessed a refreshingly hip, comic slant, typical of the work of main designer and producer James Tucker. A man hoping to make his way back to the big time starts by heading back to middle school in this comedy. Roy McCormick (Martin Lawrence) is one of the most successful coaches in college basketball, but he's just as famous for his hair-trigger temper as he is for molding winning teams. When an outburst of anger during a game escalates into an embarrassing public indecent, McCormick loses his job and is banned from college sports. Looking for a way to rehabilitate his image, McCormick takes a job coaching the basketball team at the middle school he used to attend, only to discover his players are a handful of misfits and losers with no skill on the court. Can McCormick mold the kids into a winning team -- and make himself into a better man along the way? Rebound also stars Wendy R. Jess (Milo Ventimiglia) moves to Venice, CA, to bond with his long-estranged father Jimmy (Rob Estes) -- and to cope with Jimmy's eccentric neighbors. Back in Stars Hollow, Lorelai tries to tell Rory (Alexis Bledel) that Jess is gone and that her college financial aid has been rejected while the two ladies prepare for their European backpacking trip; and Lane (Keiko Agena) tearfully reconciles herself to being shipped off to a conservative college where the boys and girls aren't even allowed to spend free time in the same park. Upset that tough-guy Frankie (Ethan Suplee) is hanging around with a bad crowd, Mr. Feeny (William Daniels) suggests that Cory (Ben Savage) and Shawn (Rider Strong) try to keep Frankie on the straight-and-narrow. Instead, the opposite happens: Thanks to their association with Frankie, Cory and Shawn now find themselves much feared by all the younger kids in school! Of course, there's a moral and a "surprise" revelation lurking within this situation, so stay with the episode until the end. In this tuneful animated sequel, that angelic ol' dog Charlie Barkin returns to create chaos in heaven and on earth. The trouble begins when Charlie gets bored with the peaceful bliss of life in doggy heaven and begins dreaming of returning to Earth. Even the arrival of his former best pal Itchy does little to cheer him up. Then the wicked Carface steals Gabriel's horn and in the struggle it falls into San Francisco. Charlie and Itchy jump at the chance to retrieve the holy horn. Once back on Earth, the two have many adventures and get entangled with a sexy Irish setter a kindly boy and a wicked cat with a nefarious scheme. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

The Swan Princess is an animated, musical adaption of the fairy tale, "Swan Lake." An aging king (Dakin Matthews) and a widowed queen (Sandy Duncan) arrange a marriage between his only daughter and her only son, despite the two children's initial dislike of one another. Eventually they fall in love, but the evil sorcerer Rothbart (Jack Palance), desiring the throne for himself, enchants the princess Odette (Michelle Nicastro). She is a swan by day, and becomes a woman only when the moon rises. Prince Derek (Howard McGillin) refuses to accept another bride and continues to search for his lost love. When he finds her, Derek must fight the sorcerer to free her from the spell. Winner of the Film Advisory Board Award of Excellence and the Parent's Choice Award, this adventure exhibits high quality animation and a blend of romantic and humorous musical numbers. The animal characters are fun without being too cute, including Jean-Bob the frog who thinks he is a prince, given voice by John Cleese. The subtle layering of spiritual symbolism makes this film intelligent enough for adults to enjoy as well as children. ~ Lucinda Ramsey, All Movie Guide

A man trying to help out his sister finds himself chin-deep in hot water in this screwball comedy. Yuppie businessman Bill Campbell (Matthew Broderick) is close to sealing a $140 million business deal when he gets a phone call from his little sister Marci (Courtney Peldon), who is convinced that her new stepfather, Peter Van Der Haven (Jeffrey Jones), the mayor of the city of Buzzsaw, California, is up to no good. Though understandably wary, Bill heads to Buzzsaw, where he promptly loses his paperwork on the deal in progress and is confronted by the city's remarkable collection of eccentrics, including the crazed fugitive Sally (Heidi Kling), the subnormal Jim Jr. and Jim Sr. (John C. Reilly and Michael Monks), and Ann (Marian Mercer), the mayor's loopy wife. It turns out that Marci wasn't entirely wrong; year's ago, Peter's diabolical twin brother Matt (also played by Jones) was sent to jail in his brother's place on criminal charges, and now Matt has violent revenge on his mind. A doctor finds out the hard way that there's more to medicine than skill in the operating theater in this emotional drama. Jack McKee (William Hurt) is a gifted but arrogant surgeon who cares little about the emotional welfare of his patients and is little more than a benign stranger to his wife Anne (Christine Lahti) and his son Nicky (Charlie Korsmo). Jack has been suffering from a nagging cough for some time, and when he begins coughing up blood one morning, he finally allows another doctor to take a look at him. The doctor discovers that Jack has a malignant tumor in his throat that could rob him of the ability to speak, or even kill him. Suddenly, Jack is a patient instead of a doctor, and he learns first hand about the long stretches in the waiting room, the indignity of filling out pointless forms, and the callous attitude of the professional medical community. Jack also gets to know June (Elizabeth Perkins), a terminal cancer patient whose joyous embrace of life as her time draws to a close is an inspiration to him. Restored to health, Jack is determined to be a more caring healer and strives to be a better husband and father, but his new lease on life also earns him an enemy in fellow surgeon Murray (Mandy Patinkin), who wants Jack to lie under oath for him in a major malpractice case; and a new respect for Eli (Alan Arkin), an ear-nose-throat man he used to ridicule for his empathetic treatment of his patients.
