Kari Wuhrer Movies
The inspiration for over a dozen web shrines, B-movie queen and pop diva Kari Wuhrer has built an expansive list of credits since debuting in the early '80s. Born in Brookfield, CT, to Andrew, a police officer turned salesman, and Karin, a payroll accountant, Wuhrer began her career by singing in local talent contests. As a teenager, she would sneak into Manhattan to play with her punk rock band, Freudian Slip. She also began taking acting classes and persuaded her mother to take her to an audition for Ford Modeling Agency's Talent Division. The company signed her on the spot. She started appearing in commercials, and later juggled her acting roles with drama classes at N.Y.U.'s Tisch School of the Arts and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London. After making her film debut in Fire With Fire (1986), Wuhrer became an MTV veejay and the co-host of network's quiz show Remote Control. She then paid her own way out to Hollywood to make a cameo in the Andrew Dice Clay vehicle The Adventures of Ford Fairlane (1990). Wuhrer eventually settled in Los Angeles, appearing in Beastmaster 2: Through the Portal of Time (1991) and landing a guest spot on Fox's Married With Children. Her own 1993 Fox series, Class of '96, failed to attract viewers, but the network still hired Wuhrer to bed Brian Austin Green in two episodes of Beverly Hills 90210 in 1994. That same year, she began landing more substantial roles, acting opposite Jack Nicholson in Sean Penn's The Crossing Guard and Laurence Fishburne in John Singleton's Higher Learning (1995). Wuhrer played a gypsy in Stephen King's Thinner (1996), before increasing her fan base exponentially when she joined the cast of the sci-fi series Sliders in 1997. While portraying sultry Maggie Beckett on the hit show, she appeared with Jennifer Lopez in Anaconda (1997) and David Schwimmer in Kissing a Fool (1998), as well as headlined numerous B-films, straight-to-video releases, and television movies. In 1999, Wuhrer, who sang and composed songs for several soundtracks, released her first album. Entitled Shiny, it boasted the popular single "There's a Drug." The new millennium saw Wuhrer leaving Sliders and lending her talents (and internet following) to the computer game series Command & Conquer, starring as Agent Tanya in Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge. She made two guest appearances on CBS's CSI and appeared in a string of B-pictures and independent pictures, including Spider's Web (2001), The Rose Technique (2001), The Medicine Show (2001), Berserker (2001), and Malevolent (2002). A veteran of over 40 screen roles, Wuhrer then cashed in on her cult status for Centropolis Entertainment's big-budget homage to low-budget creature flicks, Eight Legged Freaks (2002) -- proving that she had both wit and staying power. ~ Aubry Anne D'Arminio, All Movie Guide
This Hallmark Channel TV movie is one of several starring Kellie Martin as Samantha "Sam" Kinsey, the owner of a British-style American bookshop which traffics in mystery novels. Still worse, Barbara has been frozen out of the will, which favors such high-profile lowlifes as the dead man's brassy trophy wife Madaline (Robyn Lively) and his covetous stepdaughter Fawn (Kari Wuhrer). After crying "foul" in public over the questionable circumstances surrounding the loved one's death and the subsequent bequests, Barbara is herself murdered--and the incriminating photos which she had in her possession have vanished. Investigating the killing, Sam and her friends, former CIA agent Philby (Casey Sander) and public prosecutor Cassie (Nina Siesmazko), unearth a trail of evidence going as far back as 60 years! Forces of good and evil are in hot pursuit of a book with tremendous supernatural powers in the fifth installment of the The Prophecy franchise. A young woman named Allison comes into possession of an unusual book. Allison discovers the strange volume is the Lexicon, a book with great spiritual powers that will predict the coming of the Antichrist. Soon minions of both heaven and hell are chasing Allison, hoping to get their hands on the book; few mortals seem to believe her, though, with the exception of a lawman (Jason Scott Lee), who attempts to protect her against the agents of the afterlife. A mockumentary set in Hollywood, Do It for Uncle Manny is the tale of Stu (Shane Edelman). Stu, the favorite nephew of the titular producer Manny Solis, is in town to stay at his uncle's place while interviewing for a posh job at a law firm. Although money and Armani suits beckon, Stu really wants to become a scriptwriter. So he turns to his best friend Danny (Adam Baratta, also the film's director), who waits tables at a Chinese restaurant of dubious repute and goes on desultory acting auditions. It isn't long before Danny and Stu are painting the town a sickly shade of Bachelor Beige, with Danny teaching his friend the seven basic laws of picking up women and leading him along the merry path to County Sleaze. Along the way, however, they meet Jenny, a swinger who proves to be the men's match in more than a few ways, including her ability to lie and manipulate with the best of them. This episode served as the pilot for the spin-off series CSI: Miami, with David Caruso making his first appearance as Horatio Caine, Miami counterpart to CSI's Gil Grissom (William L. Petersen). It all begins when Las Vegas' former chief of detectives is killed execution-style after a party at his home. In addition, the dead man's young new wife and their seven-year-old daughter are missing. Ultimately the girl is spotted near Miami, obliging the Vegas CSI team to work hand in glove with Horatio Caine and his colleagues. A man returns to his hometown determined to find out the truth about a 20-year-old crime in this drama. Harry Porter (Roy Scheider) is the mayor of a city that, while once quiet and peaceful, has since become a hotbed of vice and corruption. Russell Stark (Robert Patrick), one of the top men in the city's police department, has made it his job to keep any evidence of wrongdoing from sticking to Porter, but that may change with the return of Michael Daniels (Dana Ashbrook). Michael's twin brother Jessie disappeared under suspicious circumstances two decades ago, and his body was never found; Michael is now a trained forensic pathologist who has landed a job with the police department, and in his spare time he's been running tests on a number of "John Doe" bodies at the coroner's office, determined to find out what happened to Jessie. Tyler Briggs (Michael Vartan) returns home for his mother's funeral only to encounter the redneck side of the family -- his estranged father Gus (Marshall Bell), his two drug-addled, burned-out half-brothers, and their shady friend Teddy (Denis Leary). Sniffing money, Gus wants to reestablish contact with his son, whom he abandoned with his mother 20 years previous, but Tyler wants nothing to do with him or the useless brothers. Tyler settles into a small coastal California town, where he meets the lovely Sandy (Kari Wuhrer) and her brother Jack (Norman Reedus). But Gus and the gang turn up, and Sandy becomes the victim of an attempted rape by Tyler's dimwitted scuzzbucket brothers. Despite closing a major deal for his firm thanks to his lovely wife submitting to seducing the sleazy client, Chris (Larry Poindexter) loses his job anyway and summarily drives off a bridge to his death. His beautiful young widow, Ann (Kari Wuhrer), is distraught to the point of psychosis and gets it into her now-twisted mind that the best revenge is to kill anyone who had anything to do with Chris losing his job -- that means the boss (Jay Richardson) and Chris' successor, the innocent, diabetic family woman Nicole (Barbara Crampton). Nicole struggles to keep her dysfunctional clan together, but the new housekeeper (guess who?) proves a seductive force on her husband, her college-aged son, and her slutty teenaged daughter. What's a music biz insider to do when a beautiful girl turns out to have an ugly voice? Roger Deacon (Peter Outerbridge) is a once-successful record producer whose career hit the skids after he let a number of bad habits get the better of him. The head of a major record label offers Roger a chance to pull his career out of the doldrums by producing an album for Sunni (Kari Wuhrer), a sexy would-be pop goddess who happens to be the label chief's girlfriend. There's one little problem, though -- Sunni can't sing to save her life, and no amount of studio trickery at Roger's disposal is able to conceal that fact. One night, after a failed session with Sunni, Roger ends up at a bar on karaoke night, and he hears Maggie Stanley (Gail O'Grady), a housewife, sing a number. Roger is struck by the fact that Maggie has the perfect voice for the material he's trying to cut with Sunni, and faster than you can say Milli Vanilli, he convinces Maggie to sing for Sunni, despite her natural shyness and stage fright. However, when Sunni discovers she's been reduced to a lip sync act for her upcoming video and concert tour, she's none too happy, and shares her displeasure with her boyfriend; Roger, meanwhile, is wrestling with the fact that he's fallen in love with Maggie, who is married and not prepared to leave her husband. Wuhrer portrays Sasha Burns, who must use all of her powers to help Governer Crombie (Daniel Fleischer-Brown) stop a spaceship from crashing into (and therefore destroying Los Angeles. Originally seen on cable's Sci Fi Channel, the fifth and final season of Sliders continues the efforts by a group of time-and-space travelers to hopscotch from one alternate world to another, with the ultimate goal of saving their world (which of course is also our world) from the despotic reign of the warrior Kromagg race. In the course of events, the series loses its original leading man: Quinn Mallory, the college student who'd invented the device that enabled him and his companions to "slide" from world to world, is lost during a "bad slide," and at the same time his brother Colin is blown to smithereens. Though we may never see Colin again in this world, Quinn's life essences are transferred to another slider who is immediately rechristened Quinn Two -- a mighty slick method to replace departing cast member Jerry O'Connell with newcomer Robert Floyd. As for Quinn Two's sliding comrades, only Cleavant Derricks as Rembrandt Brown remains from the series' original cast; the other slider, Maggie Beckett (Kari Wuhrer), has been with the series since its third season. In addition to Quinn Two, Rembrandt, and Maggie, the slider team now boasts the services of African-American scientist Diana Davis (Tembe Locke). At the conclusion of the series, the team ends up on yet another alternate earth, where "slideology" has become a religion thanks to a prophet called The Seer, and the sliders' exploits have been dramatized on a cable TV show. (What was that old saying, "life imitates art?") Now it is up to our heroes to take this Earth's miraculous "anti-alien" virus to Rembrandt's Earth in order to squash the Kromagg -- but as so often happens on Sliders, things go awry, and the whole cycle starts all over again! ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

After completing a three-year run on the Fox network, the sci-fi series Sliders appropriately resurfaced on cable's Sci-Fi Channel for an additional two seasons. When last we saw Quinn Mallory (Jerry O'Connell) and Maggie Beckett (Kari Wuhrer), the two sliders who had used Quinn's timing mechanism to travel to alternate worlds and universes throughout the time-space continuum, they had been hurtled centuries into the future. As the series' fourth season begins, Maggie and Quinn have reached his home earth, now in the thrall of the Kromaggs, a fascistic race of warrior sliders. As for the other former series regulars, prof. Arturo was killed near the end of season three, and Wade Wells has been shipped off to a Kromagg breeding camp; only Rembrandt Brown (Cleavant Derricks) is able to link up with Quinn and Maggie. Before long, Quinn discovers that his own parents had been sliders from a different world, and that he has been implanted with a microdot that will enable him to locate a powerful weapon capable of wiping out the Kromagg. As icing on the cake, this microdot will also ultimately reunite Quinn with his long-lost brother, Colin (Charlie O'Connell), who upon being rescued joins sliders Quinn, Maggie, and Cleavant in their quest to topple the Kromagg and save their world. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

The mother of undertaker Mario Bellini (Adrien Brody) would like to see him married, but the ladies aren't especially entranced by his funeral parlor -- where profits are soaring due to an ongoing mob war. To bring peace, Alberto (Burt Young), boss of the Strachitella family, has his gun-wielding brother Rocco (Jeff Wincott) bumped off. But it's only a staged death, and Mario is told to hide Rocco at the funeral home. Mario takes an interest in Rocco's wife Maria (Kari Wuhrer). Rocco can't keep away from Mario's girlfriend Louise (Holly Gagnier). Maria goes into a murderous rage when she discovers Rocco has been cheating on her. In this action thriller, Trent, a college student, is driving home for Thanksgiving and pulls into a truck stop to fill up his tank. While gassing up, he sees a group of men trying to rape a young woman. Trent intervenes and before long Miya, the would-be crime victim, is expressing her gratitude in increasingly physical ways. The most fascinating thing about Beastmaster 2 is how well the cartoonish sword-and-sorcery characters blend in to contemporary Los Angeles -- it may as well be documentary. Marc Singer plays Dar, a muscle-headed barbarian whose main claim to fame is his ability to communicate with a wide array of animal friends. Dar is informed that his evil brother Arklon (Wings Hauser) has nefarious designs on the universe. Arklon has teamed up with Lyranna (Sarah Douglas), a sexy witch who cracks wise in Valley Girl vernacular, a parlance picked up during her travels through the portal of time to a netherworld called L.A. Arklon has to find a quick way to decimate the universe, so Arklon and Lyranna travel through the portal to steal a neutron detonator from a military base close to Los Angeles. Dar and Southern California teen Jackie Trent (Kari Wuhrer) -- who had gotten stuck in the portal and ended up in Togaland -- pursue Arklon and Lyranna as they make their way through the time hole. Once in La-La land, Dra and his companion find themselves pursued by the LAPD, which considerably slows up their race to catch Arklon. ~ Paul Brenner, All Movie Guide

In the conclusion of a two-part episode, the Bundy family--minus Peg (Katey Sagal), who along with Ted McGinley (Jefferson D'Arcy), does not appear in this episode--heads to Hollywood, where Kelly (Christina Applegate) is to launch a major network version of her public-access TV show "Vital Social Issues 'N' Stuff with KELLY". Alas, the project all but dies aborning thanks to the well-meaning but ill-advised interference of network executives and censors (this is one of the few episodes in which Kelly's cleavage is NOT on display). Not surprisingly, inside jokes abound in this episode, ranging from the posters for various faux TV series adorning the walls of the network offices, to the name of the character played by Jon Lovitz (a delightfully nasty swipe at the then-head of NBC's entertainment division). ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

In the first episode of a two-part story, Kelly (Christina Applegate) is cheated out of a chance to appear on public access TV. In retaliation, she borrows 35 bucks and assembles her own Access series, "Vital Social Issues 'N' Stuff with KELLY", replete with a live band and a round table of female airheads. So successful is Kelly's video effort that a major network (no, not Fox) evinces interest in picking up the show for the Big Time. Katey Sagal (Peggy) does not appear in this episode, nor does Amanda Bearse (who served as director)show up in her familiar "Marcy D'Arcy" character--though Bearse can be fleetingly seen in the Access show "Short Haired Women in Banking." Controversial and often offensive stand-up comedian Andrew Dice Clay made his debut as a feature film star in this crude comedy. Fairlane is a "rock and roll detective" who works in the music business, has an office on Sunset Boulevard, and drives a 1957 Ford, with clothing to match. He floats through the rock clubs of Hollywood, picking up women and clients, and soon stumbles into a case involving the death of a heavy metal singer, a corrupt music executive (Wayne Newton), the murder of a radio shock-jock (Gilbert Gottfried), and the kidnapping of the jock's daughter (Maddie Corman). Music stars like Sheila E. and Motley Crue singer Vince Neil also have cameos in the film, which attempts to transplant Clay's aggressively obnoxious stage persona into a movie environment. ~ Don Kaye, All Movie Guide
