The 152nd and final episode of Hunter focuses on the titular detective's superior officer, Captain Charles Devane (Charles Hallahan). For reasons that he cannot possibly understand, Devane has been asked to be best man at the wedding of a small-time crook named Jake Hutton (played by frequent Hunter director Tony Mordente).At the same time, several of Hutton's former cellmates are pressuring him to participate in a crime, intending to frame him for murder. Blissfully unaware of all these intrigues is Jake's intended, dance instructor Wanda Crebbs (Jean Kasem). Quincy (Jack Klugman) performs an autopsy on a truck driver who turns out to have died of hydrogen choloride poisoning. Enlisting the aid of the trucker's widow (Salome Jens), Quincy investigates the likelihood that the victim was involved in the illegal dumping of toxic waste. Season Five of Quincy, M.E. begins with a typically perplexing case for police medical examiner Quincy (Jack Klugman). Performing an autopsy on a teenage girl, Quincy finds that the girl succumbed to a disease more commonly found in old people. After the victim's boyfriend dies in a similar fashion, Quincy determines that both were heavy drug users--and that the marijuana they'd been smoking had been treated with chemical designed to stimulate plant growth (the resemblance to the controversial defoliant Paraquat was clearly not coincidental). This crime-caper film from director Gower Champion stars George C. Scott as a visionary thief. He doesn't merely intend to rob a bank; his plan is to steal the whole bank. This is accomplished by lifting the structure with house-moving machinery in the dead of night, then painting it pink and squirreling it away in a trailer park. Ironside (Raymond Burr) searches for a resourceful burglar who has figured out a method of "taming" vicious guard dogs so that he can rob stores without interference. In order to flush out the villain, Ironside adopts his own dog and sets both himself and the pooch up as bait. With the preponderance of fierce-looking German shepherds and Doberman pinschers in this episode, one wonders how the actors got through their scenes without being ripped asunder after each take! ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
