A tormented young writer with a once-promising career experiences an existential crisis that leads him down a nightmarish path of passion, deceit, and murder. John Hayson is a writer whose career was derailed by personal tragedy. This two-part story finds the Voyager smack in the middle of a hologram rebellion. Years earlier, Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) had created a holographic program to enable the Hirogens to learn hunting skills without actually killing anyone or anything. Unfortunately, the Hirogens "improved" upon the program, making it genuinely dangerous -- and the holograms have risen up against their controllers. This tense situation threatens to drive a permanent wedge between Janeway and the Doctor (Robert Picardo), who, of course, is a hologram himself. In a follow-up to the previous episode, "Don't Kill the Messenger," Bobby Simone (Jimmy Smits) and Andy Sipowicz (Dennis Franz) continue to be frustrated in their efforts to pin a nurse's murder on misogynistic cop Tommy Richardson (Michael Wiseman). Elsewhere, a graduate student who is shot during the theft of his camera wants to exact his own brand of justice. On a more personal level, Medavoy (Gordon Clapp) rushes to Abby's (Paige Turco) side when she shows signs of going into labor. Though it was also released as Tack's Chicks, The Stoned Age is a more accurate summation of this engagingly sloppy "head" movie. The protagonists are Joe (Michael Kopelow) and Hubbs (Bradford Tatum), who are obsessed with an unending quest for beautiful girls and nonstop sex. In the course of a single night, the boys are introduced to several willing lovelies by a fella named Tack (Clifton Gonzalez-Gonzalez). Making enjoyable-if pointless-guest appearances in Stoned Age are Frankie Avalon, Taylor Negron, and two members of the Blue Oyster Cult. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

In Judgment Night, an action-packed thriller directed by Stephen Hopkins, a group of young middle-class men Emilio Estevez Cuba Gooding Jr. Jeremy Piven and Stephen Dorff on a night out with the boys take a disastrous wrong turn that leads to a run-in with a vicious street gang led by Fallon (Denis Leary). A cold, vicious and frightening criminal, Fallon and his band of thugs threaten to permanently silence the foursome after they witness a murder. ~ Linda Rasmussen, All Movie Guide

This special effects-heavy science fiction sequel moves the action from the first film's Amazon forest to the urban jungle of L.A. Danny Glover stars as Lt. Mike Harrigan, an LAPD detective baffled by his latest case, the ritualistic slaughter of several drug dealers by a devastating killer who leaves no traces. As Harrigan and his partners, Danny Archuletta (Ruben Blades), Leona Cantrell (Maria Conchita Alonso), and Jerry Lambert (Bill Paxton), try to figure out who or what killed the criminals, FBI investigator Stephen Keyes (Gary Busey) attempts to warn the team away from investigating further. When two of his team are killed in a particularly grisly way, Harrigan uncovers the truth -- their quarry is an alien creature that hunts humans for sport. Attracted to violence, its latest choice of prey is gun-toting Jamaican drug dealers. Keyes and his team know all about the nasty extraterrestrial and its bloody pastime because they've been studying it for ten years, and they've come up with a possible means of dispatching the beast. When that plan backfires, however, it comes down to Harrigan and an extremely irritated otherworldly foe, slugging it out in a rooftop confrontation. ~ Karl Williams, All Movie Guide
